The Road Safety Team is committed to achieving the City Council's ambitious Vision Zero target—eliminating deaths and serious injuries on our roads by 2040. Guided by the Safe Systems Approach, we work across multiple sectors to design and implement measures that improve road safety and support the Healthy Streets Approach, which puts people first and creates streets that promote active travel, clean air, and safer communities.
Key Responsibilities
* Project Support: Work alongside senior officers to support delivery of road safety interventions, including the school crossing patrol service, cycle training, driver behaviour change, and road safety education, training, and publicity activities.
* Development of Road Safety Activities: Assist senior officers in identifying and developing the City Council’s road safety activities as part of the continual improvement of the Safe Systems Approach, looking for opportunities to drive progress towards the vision zero target.
* Team Administration: Support senior officers on general team administrative activities, including ordering and distributing equipment to school crossing patrols and cycle trainers, and road safety training and publicity materials as required.
* Data Analysis: Analyse and present data related to collisions and casualties to identify key issues and opportunities to target road safety activities proactively.
* Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with and respond to inquiries from emergency services, businesses, and residents regarding road safety concerns, ensuring clear communication and effective solutions.
* Cross‑Departmental Support: Provide road safety advice to various teams within the transport sector, including planning applications and major projects, and the City Council, while considering the principles of the Healthy Streets Approach.
* Representation and Consultation: Represent the City Council at consultation events concerning road safety issues, advocating for strategies that enhance safety, public health, and mobility.
* Road Safety Knowledge Development: Build and maintain knowledge of road safety activities, interventions, Safe Systems and Healthy Streets approaches through researching changes to legislation and best practice.
* Workload Management: Manage your allocated workload effectively, maintaining accurate records of progress and ensuring project milestones are tracked and reported accurately.
* Ensure compliance with all Health, Safety, and Welfare policies as outlined by Bristol City Council.
* Promote equality and diversity in all aspects of project delivery, modelling best practices across the service.
* Maintain a high standard of work quality, adhering to current legislation and Council codes of conduct.
* Complete mandatory training as required by the Council, ensuring you remain up to date with health, safety, and safeguarding policies.
