Teaching Assistant – Alternative Provision Middlesbrough £380 - £425 per week (salary is depending on experience and/or qualifications) Starting ASAP The School and Role An independent specialist school in Durham seeks a Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting children who have been excluded from mainstream education. Pupils are aged 8–16 and often present with Social, Emotional & Mental Health needs, as well as associated needs such as Autism or ADHD. The school provides a nurturing, structured environment with a focus on helping pupils make progress emotionally, socially, behaviourally and academically. The Teaching Assistant will work in small classes and 1:1 settings, using strong behaviour support skills to help pupils overcome barriers to learning and re-engage with education. Requirements The desired Teaching Assistant will: Be confident in behaviour management, including de-escalating challenging or aggressive behaviour. Mentor and build positive relationships with pupils, supporting them through tailored educational packages. Be resilient, empathetic, patient, and able to remain calm under pressure. Have relevant experience working with children, young people, or vulnerable adults, particularly those with additional needs or who are disengaged from learning.
