As a team we drive global retail strategies across 82 markets, within Dyson owned stores and third-party concessions, to create and shape Dyson’s retail landscape.
About the role
As a Retail TechnicalDesigner,you will be responsible for taking retail briefs from ideation to realisation.
Working across a breadth of projects from direct store furniture, NPD projects, retail systems and bespoke market requirements. You will work closely with the Concept Design team to aid with concept exploration, offering technical guidance, ensuring design validation, and adhering to a coherent design vision. You will be required to evolve initial design concepts into tangible retail furniture for production.
1. Create proof-of-concept mock-ups to explore the aesthetic & technical elements to ensure that all fixtures are to the agreed concept vision.
2. Evolving designs through detailed 3D development models and creation of technical drawing and production packs
3. Managing your own projects through the Dyson retail design and development process to drive cost, production, installation, and environmental efficiency wherever possible.
4. Briefing and supporting external manufacturing vendors to manage projects through to prototype production.You will undertake comprehensive prototype reviewsto ensure design alignmentand approval across multi-functional internal teams and senior stakeholders.
5. Ensure designs comply withDyson quality, performance and technical standards and adheres to global/market Health and Safety standards and regulations.
6. Collaborating closely with the Global Retail Production team to help provide technical support, aid cost validation and capture design amends in the creation of final production packs to hand over for manufacture.
About you
7. 2:1 or higher Design degree in Product/Furniture/ Industrial Design.
8. 4+ years of technical design experience with demonstrable experience of working with retail or furniture design.
9. Excellent knowledge of materials, manufacturing process: sheet steel and plastic fabrication, timber and sheet joinery, aluminum extrusions, injection mouldings and LED lighting.
10. Good design communication and exploration skills through a range of mediums with strong sketching and design modelling skills.
11. Strong manual prototyping skills and workshop experience would be ideal.
12. Experienced user of 3D CAD (Solidworks is essential).
13. Good working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.
14. Fully literate in producing large General Assemblies and manufacturing technical drawings that comply toBS8888.
15. Understanding of graphic design, instore communication, and mixed print production ideal
16. Strong experience presenting work to internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
17. Strong knowledge of prototyping production processes.
18. Excellent time management skills, able to handle multiple projects whilst still delivering on schedule and to budget.
