Overview
This is a rare and exciting opportunity to join the occupational therapy team within HMP Edinburgh. Working with prisoners who have mental health problems, the successful candidate will be enthusiastic and motivated with skills in clinical decision-making, risk management, and prioritisation of needs. Occupational Therapy leadership is embedded in the team, providing ongoing profession-specific support to enable a high-quality, person-centred service.
Responsibilities
* Provide specialist occupational therapy assessment, treatment and discharge planning for adults in a prison setting with mental health needs.
* Demonstrate clinical decision-making, prioritisation of needs, and risk management within a multi-professional team.
* Provide leadership and participate in practice development and service improvement initiatives.
* Offer professional supervision, training and development, and support for junior staff and students where applicable.
* Establish close links with other occupational therapists in prisons in Scotland and with mental health teams and services in the region.
Qualifications
* Registered Occupational Therapist with relevant professional body.
* Experience in mental health and/or prison settings is desirable.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Requirements and Checks
* Professional supervision, training and development are integral to the service.
* This post requires PVG membership/record for required regulatory groups. If not current, applications for Disclosure Scotland will be needed before starting.
* From 1 April 2025, there may be changes to the level of criminal records checks for regulated roles. If applicable, you will be informed by the Hiring Manager or Recruitment Team.
* Right to work in the United Kingdom is required. This generally involves demonstrating permission to work in the UK as per UK Visas & Immigration requirements.
