An exciting opportunity has arisen on our Same Day Emergency Care Unit to apply for the Band 7 Senior Sister. This is a fixed term contract for maternity cover.
We are looking for a highly motivated individual to lead our established team. This person needs to have significant experience as a band 6 and is looking to further their career progression as a leader in a supportive environment.
Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) provides care for emergency patients who do not require an overnight stay. Patients are likely to have been referred to the unit from the Emergency Department, from their GP or following a discharge from Dorset County Hospital.
Main duties of the job
* The post holder will lead and develop the core nursing team and be responsible for delivering safe, high quality nursing care.
* To develop, implement, and evaluate a seamless integrated acute service, ensuring that patients receive efficient and appropriate clinical care, and are transferred to their designated ward within a specific time frame, therefore maintaining a continuous flow from ED.
* To support each patient in their care pathway by providing clinical leadership, professional advice and clinical expertise.
* To work proactively with the Clinical Site Team, Emergency Department and all other areas to ensure patient flow is facilitated and optimised.
* Manage all elements of staff performance, sickness and wellbeing in line with Trust policy and in conjunction with HR.

Education, Qualifications and Training
Essential criteria
* Appropriate Professional Registration with a recognised health care body
* Evidence of CPD
* Recognised teaching qualification
* Extended clinical skills to include ILS, cannulation and catheterisation
* Leadership or management qualification/ experience or a willingness to work towards
Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
* Significant post registration experience with a minimum of 3 years in acute medical/ emergency care at band 6
* Understanding of professional healthcare issues
* Demonstrates motivation and commitment providing high quality patient centred care and patient education
* Experience of resource management including staff and budget management
* Knowledge of clinical governance and experience of risk and Route Cause Analysis management and managing complaints
Desirable criteria
* Experience of being directly / indirectly involved with national initiatives
Skills & Abilities
Essential criteria
* Evidence of ability to act as a proficient healthcare practitioner
* Evidence of ability to maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, patients and visitors
* Evidence of an ability to manage patient flow and ability to escalate as required in accordance with policy
