Overview
Invictus Education Trust, a Multi Academy Trust comprising six secondary schools and one primary school with over 750 employees and over 5,500 students, based in Dudley, West Midlands, is recruiting for a Governance and Compliance Officer. Reporting to the Director of Strategy and Governance, you will support effective local governance across the Trust, including clerking meetings, advising on compliance, managing governor recruitment, and maintaining accurate records.
Contract details: Permanent. This role is offered on an annualised hours basis, working 780 hours per year. Some hours can be worked flexibly across the year, including school holidays, to meet the Trust’s operational needs. Grade 7 (SCP 18 – 23) FTE salary £31,537 - £34,434. Actual salary £14,849 – £16,212, based on working 780 annualised hours per year. Start date: ASAP.
This role involves working with Local Academy Committees (LACs) across the Trust and supporting governance in line with the Trust’s Scheme of Delegation, Articles of Association, and statutory requirements. A driving licence and own car (business use) are required; some early evening work is expected.
Responsibilities
* Clerk LAC and panel meetings, ensuring accurate minutes and procedural compliance.
* Provide clear and timely advice to Local Academy Committees (LACs) so associate governors understand and fulfill their statutory and strategic responsibilities.
* Manage local governance recruitment, induction, and training records.
* Maintain up-to-date governance documentation and statutory registers.
* Support data protection, Freedom of Information, and complaints processes.
* Promote a culture of strong governance and professional integrity.
* Assist in the resolution of school-level complaints, exclusions, and hearings in accordance with Trust policies and procedures.
* Deliver high-quality administrative and clerking support to underpin effective governance and the Trust’s priorities.
* Provide professional governance advice and support across the Trust’s schools and committees.
Requirements/Qualifications
* Experience in educational governance, preferably within a Multi Academy Trust.
* Strong professionalism, organisation, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to work with Chairs of Governors, headteachers, school leaders and associate governors.
* Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to governance standards and the Trust’s values.
* Ability to work flexibly across priorities and use initiative.
Other Details
* Driving license and own car required for business use.

* Pre-employment checks including enhanced DBS with Children’s Barred List, identity checks, online checks, and qualification references; compliant with Keeping Children Safe in Education 2025.
* The role is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 exceptions and DBS filtering guidance.
