Job Summary
Deliver a comprehensive cardiac rehabilitation programme in the hospital and community settings. The role requires a high level of enthusiasm, experience in exercise‑based cardiac rehabilitation, and strong communication skills.
Main Duties
* Deliver a range of exercise‑based cardiac rehabilitation sessions in line with BACPR, ACPICR, AHA, and AACPVR guidelines (circuit, 1:1, strength, low‑impact, balance, and conditioning sessions).
* Prescribe exercise and conduct assessment and evaluation sessions for patients with varied pathophysiology and comorbidity.
* Supervise and lead exercise sessions, ensuring patient safety and effectiveness.
* Plan, implement, and monitor outcomes of cardiac rehabilitation programmes.
* Progress patients through programme stages, provide education and advice, and refer to specialist services when needed.
* Participate fully in the multidisciplinary team.
* Record all data accurately in the departmental database (CCAD, national minimum dataset, hospital systems).
Qualifications
* Degree in exercise science, biology, nutrition, or related discipline (minimum 2:1).
* Intermediate Life Support (ILS) qualification.
Knowledge & Expertise
* Up‑to‑date knowledge of national and local strategies for CHD reduction (BACPR, AACPVR, NICE).
* Sound knowledge of exercise testing and prescription guidelines.
* Expertise in exercise physiology and clinical pathologies.
* Experience developing, leading, and evaluating exercise‑based cardiac rehabilitation for specialist populations.
* Proficiency in planning long‑term exercise programmes and evaluating outcomes.
* Ability to deliver educational talks and lead group exercise sessions.
* Ability to interpret resting and exercise ECGs.
* Capability to support senior colleagues and train junior staff.
Experience
* Previous experience in an acute or community cardiac rehabilitation setting.
* Experience delivering physical activity/exercise advice to diverse clinical populations.
* Experience managing a large clinical caseload and conducting exercise tolerance testing or physical function assessment.
Other Requirements
Access to transport for work purposes and ability to attend home visits and satellite centres (Ellesmere Port Hospital, Chester based venues). Will be required to pay for DBS check; cost deducted from salary.
