Cover Supervisor – Science Specialism

Age Range: 11–16
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm
Pay: Dependent on skills and experience
Are you passionate about supporting young people who face challenges in mainstream education? We are seeking a committed and confident Cover Supervisor with a specialism in Science to join a Secondary Alternative Provision in Burnley.
This full-time role offers a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful impact on students aged 11–16 who require a more tailored, supportive learning environment.
About the Setting:
This Alternative Provision supports students who have struggled in mainstream education due to social, emotional, behavioural, or additional learning needs. The provision focuses on re-engaging learners by providing a structured, nurturing, and inclusive environment, helping them to achieve both academic progress and personal growth.
Role Responsibilities:
* Deliver pre-set lessons and manage classrooms across Key Stages 3 and 4, with a focus on Science
* Maintain a calm, focused learning environment
* Support students in managing their behaviour and engagement
* Build positive, respectful relationships with pupils and staff
* Ensure safeguarding and school policies are upheld at all times
* Work closely with subject teachers and pastoral staff to ensure continuity and support
What We’re Looking For:
* Experience working with young people, ideally in a school or alternative provision setting
* Strong subject knowledge in Science
* Confident in classroom and behaviour management
* A patient, resilient, and adaptable approach
* A commitment to supporting pupils with additional needs or barriers to learning
* Education or youth work background preferred – although QTS is not required
