Job Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, well-motivated and experienced HCPC registered Senior Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join our friendly team in the provision of Clinical Biochemistry services at the Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH), just 20 minutes South of London. We are looking for a new Senior Specialist Biomedical Scientist who is HCPC registered with significant recent experience. Applicants should have a proven track record of effective performance at BMS Band 7 level Scientist.
Key Responsibilities
The post holder is responsible for an area of the diagnostic work ensuring proper organisation and functioning of the work area, directing staff within the area and ensuring that the correct procedures are performed. Responsibilities include supervision of work, performance monitoring and the training and development of all staff required for the delivery of a fit for purpose clinical technical service.
To always maintain the required high standards and quality and an up to date knowledge of all Clinical Biochemistry and Blood Science Laboratory theory and current working practices including technical problem solving of analytical equipment.
As a Senior Specialist Biomedical Scientist you will be responsible for the organisation and functioning of the laboratory, directing staff and ensuring that the correct procedures are performed. Working a 37.5 hour week, you will be expected to assist with the day-to‑day operation of the laboratory as well as maintaining the high standards of quality and current working practices, including technical problem solving of analytical equipment.

Although geographically an outer London site, this role benefits from the higher rate London weighting payment (20%).
Qualifications and Experience
We are seeking a proactive, motivated and enthusiastic Senior Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join our team, with a relevant undergraduate degree (including HCPC registration) and a higher qualification (i.e. MSc in relevant subject). Accredited to ISO 15189 standards, the laboratory is also an IBMS approved training provider in biochemistry. The successful candidate will have advanced experience in Biochemistry, with good knowledge in QMS and related quality tasks e.g. UKAS, Validation & Verification, Auditing, Incident investigation (CAPA) etc.

Key Equipment
Accredited to ISO15189 standards, the laboratory is equipped with Abbott Alinity analysers, the OsmoPro Osmometer, Cepheid Gene Expert and Radiometer ABL90 Flex plus.
Team Collaboration
You will be working closely with Blood Sciences Operations manager, Clinical Scientists and alongside Senior Specialist Biomedical Scientists based at our other sites. There will be an expectation to support the recruitment of staff, and candidates must have demonstrable managerial skills and experience in both staff and change management.
