Salary: £26,403 to £26,824 per annum
Contract Type: Fixed Term until July 2027
Working Pattern: Full time - 37 hours per week (Monday to Friday; 9-5)
Location: Based at County Hall, Chichester but travel around the county will be required. Hybrid working available.
The Business Assurance Group, within Highways, Transport and Planning (HTP), are currently looking to recruit to an exciting new role of Highway Data Assistant. The role will require you to assist in processing highway inventory and condition survey data records into a corporate asset management system to assist the team to plan and initiate highway works programmes.

The Opportunity
The role will require you to deliver a professional, customer focused service, ensuring the maintenance and safety of the highway by delivering detailed information and reporting, as required.
The role will require having knowledge of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) for mapping and reporting highway maintainable assets.
You will assist with the production of annual statistics and reports required for central government returns as well as routine highway maintenance schedules of works for the whole year.

* Good communication skills - confident engaging with a diverse range of customers and stakeholders to deliver an efficient, high-quality service.
* Strong analytical and interpretive abilities - capable of understanding complex information and presenting it clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
* Effective organisational and planning skills - able to manage workloads, set priorities, and produce detailed reports and high-quality written materials.
* Proficiency in IT - comfortable using Microsoft Word, Excel, or equivalent software to conduct research, analyse documents, and present data effectively.
* Relevant qualifications - a minimum of five GCSEs at grades A-C / 4-9, or equivalent experience that demonstrates comparable capability.
* Flexibility to travel - able to travel independently across the county, including to locations that may be less accessible by public transport. Pool cars and bikes are available to support this.

The team work as a support to the rest of the directorate, covering highway contract operational support, quality and performance monitoring, business system and analysis support and highway network and data information management.
Within Business Assurance, this position then sits within the Systems and Data Team. Their principal responsibilities are to assist with maintaining the National Street Gazetteer (NSG), the countywide highway network information, the Highway inventory and condition assessment survey data and reporting back to DFT on National Indicators about the condition of the Road Network.
