Aurora Summerfields School Wilmslow

Aurora Summerfields School is an established independent specialist setting in Wilmslow for pupils aged 5–19 with complex communication and social needs, typically associated with autism spectrum condition. The school provides a safe, nurturing environment where individuality is recognised and supported, enabling pupils to develop into confident, resilient learners.

The school has capacity for 50 pupils and offers a carefully designed curriculum that balances academic learning with life skills and personal development, ensuring pupils are prepared for their next steps in education, employment or training.

Ofsted (February 2024) judged the school to be Good overall, with Outstanding behaviour and personal development, highlighting the strong relationships, nurturing environment and the positive progress pupils make from their individual starting points.

We are seeking a Class Teacher to join our team from September 2026. We are looking to appoint someone with experience of delivering outcomes for young people who are of upper primary or secondary age but working below age related expectations and on a life skills/ functional pathway. Experience of teaching a range of subjects across the National Curriculum would be advantageous. This role would suit a teacher experienced in supporting pupils who benefit from a personalised, therapeutic approach to learning.

The Role

As a Class Teacher, your role will be to provide high quality teaching that will enable pupils to make progress not just academically but socially and emotionally. You must be creative and have high expectations. An understanding of ASC would be useful to support the planning and delivery of a broad and balanced curriculum to enable our pupils to achieve their full potential in all areas.

To facilitate this, you'll plan and deliver lessons across a number of subjects that support young people, building self-esteem and confidence.

You'll supervise and provide support and guidance to our Teaching Assistants and play a key role in their Professional Development Reviews.

Naturally, you will take responsibility for implementing school policies and practices, including those relating to safeguarding and equality of opportunity. Additionally; you will also be expected to carefully monitoring the health, well-being and personal care of our pupils; informing Pastoral/clinical/ SEND support teams and any other relevant professionals of any concerns.

Skills and Qualifications

Successful candidates are likely to demonstrate:

1. Qualified Teacher status
2. Experience in achieving outstanding outcomes
3. Thorough working knowledge of the curriculum and how to adapt this for pupils with SEN
4. Experience of working with young people with an ASC
5. Understanding of the Safeguarding principles and Child Protection procedures
6. Ability to create and maintain strong nurturing relationships with young people
7. Experience of managing a range of approaches to learning, to include the students with anxiety.
8. Knowledge of strategies and visual teaching methods to engage reluctant learners.
9. A flexible approach, a high level creativity and the ability to adapt teaching to meet individual needs
