Pastoral Support Officer – Successful Secondary School – Bristol

Start Date: As soon as possible
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: Paid to scale

A successful and well-regarded secondary school in Bristol is seeking to appoint a committed and proactive Pastoral Support Officer to join its experienced pastoral team. This role is ideal for someone passionate about supporting students’ wellbeing, behaviour and personal development.

The Pastoral Support Officer will play a key role in helping students overcome barriers to learning, ensuring they remain engaged in school life and achieve their full potential. Working closely with Heads of Year, teachers and safeguarding staff, the successful candidate will support a wide range of pastoral interventions.

The school is a Good Ofsted-rated 11–18 secondary school with a strong focus on student support, inclusion and achievement. It serves a diverse local community and prides itself on providing a nurturing and supportive environment where all students can succeed.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide pastoral support to students across assigned year groups
• Work with Heads of Year to monitor student behaviour, attendance and wellbeing
• Support students experiencing barriers to learning
• Deliver targeted interventions to improve behaviour and engagement
• Liaise with parents and carers to support student progress
• Assist with safeguarding and welfare procedures
• Monitor and record behaviour incidents and pastoral interventions
• Support restorative conversations and behaviour reflection processes
• Promote positive behaviour and school values
• Work closely with teaching staff to ensure consistent student support
• Assist with transition support for new students joining the school
• Collaborate with external agencies when necessary
