General Summary
Working as part of the Celeros Quality team, the Welding Technical Authority ensures all technical aspects of welding/fabrication comply with applicable ASME Code and EN requirements, acting as the subject‑matter expert regarding welding processes and supporting the fabrication cell leader.
Additionally, the Welding Technical Authority serves as the company point of contact for welding queries, approvals, and communication between ClydeUnion vendors and customers, ensuring smooth project execution.
Principles, Duties, and Responsibilities
* Provide welding engineering guidance and support across the ClydeUnion product range and support global sites as appropriate.
* Manage Procedure Qualification Record development, testing and formal approval of project specific welding procedure specifications as required by contract.
* Co‑ordination and supervision of welding qualification tests and issue reports upon completion of tests.
* Manage and perform reviews of vendor PQRs / W.P.S to ensure code and contract compliance, working with all parties to gain approval and acceptance.
* Supervise welding activities to the extent necessary, ensuring welder capability and continuity records are maintained.
* Collaborate with Project Managers, Quality Assurance Managers, and others to ensure all project weld procedures are code and customer compliant.
* Responsible for the review and acceptance, of welding documentation (WPS, PQR, Weld Maps, etc) from external vendors for submission to customer.
* Support Engineering and Supply Chain in procurement of appropriate material when required for new Weld procedures.
* Develop and deliver subject‑matter training programs, as requested, for welding activities, to promote awareness and industry best‑practice, in accordance with international codes & standards and Client technical specifications.
* Working with Quality Control Inspectors (QCI) and QAM to review and address all inspection and mechanical testing reports related to Welding.
* Identify and facilitate, the implementation and acceptance of improvements in the workplace.
* Creation of purchase requisitions for all welding material and welding test materials where required.
* Provide code and specification interpretation expertise.
* Work with Engineering (Design and Manufacturing Engineers) team to define process parameters and criteria to ensure supplier process capability is effective to meet product and process requirements.
Knowledge, Skills & Competencies
* University Degree / time served apprenticeship in welding engineering or engineering.
* 3 to 5 years’ experience in mechanical, metallurgical or weld engineering is required.
* CWEng or European Welding Engineer certified or other formal qualification.
* Time served welder or equivalent hands‑on work experience in manufacturing environment (advantageous)
* Working knowledge of national and international welding codes ie ASME, EN, ISO RCC-M
* Able to meet the requirements as defined in ASME IX QG 106 and CUP QA Program
* Ability to interface with other departments – Engineering / quality / manufacturing / projects.
* Ability to work as part of a team or independently as required.
* Able to assimilate and process data from a range of sources.
* Ability to communicate effectively at all levels across the business.
* Significant demonstrable working knowledge of the main welding processes typically used within pump manufacture (castings, baseplates, pressure boundary fabrications & pipework).
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex issues and data into simple, understandable, actionable items. Able to tailor messages for senior leadership and all levels of employees appropriately.
* Skills in Office, including Excel and ERP applications.
