The role We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Cost Consultant to join our Building Safety Directorate and support the delivery of our Fire Remediation Programme. This is a pivotal role that will see you act as the commercial lead across a portfolio of critical building safety projects, ensuring robust financial oversight and value-for-money outcomes from inception through to final account settlement. Reporting to the Programme Manager, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining cost plans, conducting valuations, and ensuring contractor invoices and accounts are accurate and compliant. You will lead procurement activities, manage commercial risk, and provide expert advice on cost implications, contract terms, and performance metrics. Your work will directly influence the financial health and delivery success of the programme. You will also play a key role in supporting the Building Safety Delivery Team by maintaining accurate commercial records, managing change events, and contributing to continuous improvement in cost management practices. Your ability to interpret complex data, liaise with internal and external stakeholders, and support dispute resolution will be essential in maintaining project momentum and stakeholder confidence. Some visits to sites and other offices might be needed based on the locations part of the programme's scope. What You'll Need: Demonstrable experience in cost management, quantity surveying, or commercial management Strong procurement experience on high-value contracts Familiarity with measurement standards (POMI, RICS NRM, etc.) and their applications Solid understanding of contract conditions, life-cycle costing, and value engineering Ability to analyse outcomes, write detailed reports, and manage risk and value during construction Proficiency in MS Project and Microsoft 365 suite (Excel, SharePoint) and cost management and estimating tools, earned value analysis and budget development In your supporting statement, it is important that you address how you meet each of the above six criteria providing real examples.
