Applications are invited for a clinical Fellow ST8 level post, offered by the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, based at Worcestershire Royal Hospital. This is a fixed‑term post for 12 months, commencing Feb/March 2026.


Main duties of the job

As an Interventional Cardiology Clinical Fellow, you will receive advanced PCI training and also be involved in the recruitment to current interventional cardiology trials. The post would ideally suit a candidate approaching the end of an accredited Cardiology training programme or post CCT or equivalent. They should have a minimum of five years cardiology experience and at least basic PCI experience.

There will be 8 clinical sessions within the Cardiac Catheter lab, 1 emergency clinic and a dedicated administration session.

Job description


Job responsibilities

* Cardiac Catheter Lab – 8 sessions per week
* PCI on‑call approx. 1:7
* 1 emergency clinic per week
* Assisting the consultant with relevant procedures and investigations, with a view to becoming an independent operator
* Maintaining a training portfolio and logbook of procedures where applicable
* Attendance at multidisciplinary team meetings
* Participation in recruitment and data management for clinical trials/audit projects
* Participation in Mortality & Morbidity case reviews
* Teaching of junior cardiology trainees


Person Specification


Qualifications


Essential

* MBBS or equivalent
* MRCP (full)
* ALS provider
* Eligible for full GMC registration with Licence to Practise at the time of appointment


Desirable

* Completion of specialist training and entry onto GMC specialist register in Cardiology.


Other requirements


Essential

* An understanding of the current NHS environment, particularly in relation to reforms, initiatives and issues
* Able to meet the travel requirements of the job and return to the hospital within 30 minutes when undertaking non‑resident on‑call duties
* Workplace Health Clearance by time of appointment
* Access to transport and ability to travel across hospital sites


Management and administrative experience

* Ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively
* Ability to organise and manage outpatient priorities
* Experience of audit management and conducting clinical audit

* Ability to use evidence‑based and clinical audit to support decision making

Experience


Essential

* At least 3 years full‑time or equivalent postgraduate training, at least 2 years of which will be in a Cardiology training programme and have completed it or be near completion
* At least 5 years clinical experience within Cardiology
* Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on range of problems both emergency and elective within specialty and sufficient experience
* Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients


Teaching experience


Essential

* Ability to organise and deliver teaching across the whole undergraduate curriculum
* Ability to teach clinical skills to medical, nursing staff and other disciplines
* Experience of teaching clinical skills to undergraduates and postgraduates
* Knowledge of audit principles and evidence of participation and completion of audit projects


Desirable

* Critical appraisal skills
* Ability to supervise postgraduate research
