General Job description and person specification Job Title: Interim Technical Accounting Manager, 9 month FTC Location: London Division: Finance Reports To: Head of Technical Accounting Key Relationships: Finance Leadership Team (FLT), Finance Teams, External Auditors, Internal Audit, Risk Management, Compliance, Corporate Development, Operations, Actuarial Job Summary: We are looking for a Technical Accounting Manager on an interim basis to cover a period of parental leave. This role partners closely with teams across finance and the wider organisation, ensuring transactions and changes are appropriately accounted for and reflected in relevant external reporting. The Technical Accounting Manager will provide expert technical accounting advice and guidance, while ensuring compliance with regulatory reporting requirements for the Group. Carry out additional responsibilities as individually notified, either through your objectives or through the learning management system. Key Responsibilities: External Reporting Oversee team in performance of the technical reviews over statutory reporting and regulatory returns prior to issuance, to ensure compliance with group accounting policies, external reporting requirements and accuracy of statements. Guide team in annual updates of statutory and group reporting disclosure to ensure they are up to date, adhere to relevant reporting standards and embed best practice. Manage, prepare and review relevant reporting to Group and entity Audit Committees on technical accounting matters pertaining to periodic reporting. Oversee team in managing and resolving technical/subjective external audit comments on financial reporting. Accounting Consultation Serve as primary business partner for the TA team within and outside of Finance. Ensure that changes to and changes impacting accounting policies are implemented properly, and that the TA team provides post-implementation support and training. Provide support for global Finance teams on technical accounting matters. Regularly collaborate to identify, research, resolve and communicate findings on accounting-related questions regarding business transactions and other non-routine matters. Support Finance BAU teams with technical accounting papers for internal and external use. Acting as the main point of contact for external auditors on any technical accounting matters. Accounting Policy Direct team in establishing and improving the organisation’s documentation of policies and procedures to enhance the quality of financial reporting. Oversee team in researching new accounting guidance and exposure drafts, assist with interpretation and implementation of new/amended regulatory and reporting standards. Direct team’s implementation of internal thought leadership communications from horizon scanning exercises. Team Oversight and People Development Oversight and coaching of two technical accountants, ensuring they are supported in their day to day activities. Provide coaching and guidance to other finance team members on accounting and reporting matters. Personal Specification: Skills and Abilities Proactive approach to investigating and understanding changing accounting and regulatory standards Experience researching and documenting technical accounting implications required Excellent analytical skills, strong attention to detail, ability to multi-task, and work to deadlines Ability to communicate complex technical issues to non-technical stakeholders with excellent verbal and written communication skills Demonstrated ability to solve problems and suggest solutions Intermediate business perspective including an understanding of the political nature of the organization Knowledge and Experience Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CPA) with at least 5 years post-qualified experience in insurance. Experience performing a similar role in industry, or in a Big 4 firm in accounting advisory/external audit. Experience of working in a large, listed multi-national Group, including dealing with consolidated plc reporting. Strong technical knowledge of accounting concepts/theories (IFRS, UK GAAP) and how they apply to the insurance industry, including experience with IFRS 17 in a practical context. Knowledge of insurance regulatory requirements, specifically Lloyd’s market and Solvency II is preferred. Experience of managing and coaching a small team.
