Job Summary:
The Opto/Mechanical Technician is responsible for the advanced assembly and testing of optical systems used in lasers, laser radars, and electro-optical sensors. This role supports the production and testing of precision optical equipment by assembling components, performing alignment and optimization, and validating system functionality through laboratory testing. The technician will work closely with engineering teams, follow detailed assembly procedures, and contribute to process improvements that enhance production efficiency and system reliability.
Key Responsibilities:
* Audit work order kits from the warehouse to verify part numbers and components.
* Prepare and organize subassembly components prior to system assembly.
* Follow written procedures or engineering drawings to complete assembly tasks.
* Suggest process improvements to optimize production workflows.
* Assemble and debug systems incorporating optical, mechanical, and electronic components.
* Perform system-level testing across multiple assembly stages.
* Conduct alignment, optimization, stability, and transmission verification.
* Use laboratory instruments such as interferometers and Zygo systems for testing and measurement.
* Package completed assemblies after final testing and inspection.
* Participate in cross-training activities as both trainee and trainer when required.
Required Experience:
* 0–2 years of related experience for Level 1 roles.
* 2–3 years of related experience for Level 2 roles.
* Experience assembling mechanical or optical components in a manufacturing or laboratory environment.
* Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
* Ability to enter production data into spreadsheet templates.
Nice-to-Have Experience:
* Experience using optical measurement instruments such as interferometers or Zygo systems.
* Experience working with laser systems, optical sensors, or electro-optical equipment.
Required Skills:
* Optical and mechanical system assembly
* Ability to read engineering drawings
* Basic data entry using Microsoft Excel
Preferred Skills:
* Optical measurement instrumentation (interferometer, Zygo)
* System alignment and optical optimization
* Electro‑mechanical troubleshooting
