Rate: £415 per day (Umbrella, Inside IR35)

An interim opportunity for a Project Safety Lead to join a global engineering team, delivering on major capital projects across the drinks manufacturing sector. This role provides critical health and safety support to ensure construction excellence and compliance throughout all project phases.
The Role
As Project Safety Lead, you'll act as the key link between project management and on-site teams, ensuring the highest standards of safety are upheld. You'll collaborate closely with project engineers, principal contractors, and subcontractors, providing coaching, guidance, and leadership on all aspects of construction safety.
While you'll support and influence safety performance, principal contractors retain overall responsibility for implementation. Your focus will be on enabling safe delivery through visibility, engagement, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide H&S expertise and leadership on major capital (CAPEX) projects.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with contractors, subcontractors, and internal project teams.
* Attend and contribute to start-up meetings, safety workshops, and risk assessment reviews.
* Deliver visible safety leadership on-site through regular engagement and inspections ("boots on the ground").
* Support the project team in monitoring contractor safety performance and implementing corrective actions.
* Facilitate site impact meetings, toolbox talks, and daily whiteboard safety briefings.
* Lead or support incident investigations, audits, and GEMBA walks.
* Champion company safety standards, expectations, and values at all times.
Requirements:
* Proven experience in construction safety management, ideally within engineering or manufacturing environments.
* Strong working knowledge of mechanical and electrical project safety.
* Excellent communication, coaching, and stakeholder engagement skills.
* A proactive approach to risk management and safety culture development.
* Degree-level qualification preferred; safety certifications (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH) advantageous.
* Experience with HAZOPs / hazard identification processes desirable.
