Overview
This is a full-time substantive post for the vacancy of Consultant Intensivist and Anaesthetist based at Ysbyty Gwynedd, Bangor.
The post holder will be expected to contribute to clinical and educational activities within the directorates, as determined by the Consultants within the team, and provide a high-quality service to the local population, including an emergency on-call commitment.
All Consultant Intensivists are expected to provide the initial assessment, treatment, and stabilisation of critically unwell children from birth to age sixteen, whilst awaiting transfer to a tertiary centre by the Regional Paediatric Transfer Service. The on-call Anaesthetic and Critical Care Team also provide the initial assessment of critically ill children in collaboration with the Paediatric Consultants. Consultants are always supported by their colleagues throughout the management of paediatric cases.
Main duties
* There will be hot weeks from Monday to Thursday and hot weekends Friday to Sunday, this is currently one in eight which requires day time weekday and weekend working. Each shift is 12.5 hours and is resident from 08:00 to 20:30.
* All Consultant Intensivists are expected to be able to provide emergency anaesthesia and in the absence of regular theatre sessions, there is support for some Supporting Professional Activities (SPA) sessions to be undertaken in theatres for skills maintenance.
* The postholder will be required to co-operate with local management in the efficient running of services and expected to share with all colleagues in the medical contribution to management.
