About: Global Marine Group is a leading independent provider of submarine cable solutions offering a broad range of services including consultancy, installation and maintenance covering the lifespan of a submarine cable system and delivered to customers worldwide.
The Fleet Manager is responsible for supporting the Managing Director of Asset Operations in leading the group’s vessel ship management function. This role ensures the safe, efficient, and timely operation of all vessels, while also supporting subsea assets in close collaboration with the Subsea Manager.
The Fleet Manager will lead the Operations team to achieve all Health & Safety, Environmental, Operational, Financial, and Commercial metrics for the fleet. The role will also lead the Fleet Emergency Response Team and deputise for the MD of Asset Operations in their absence.

DTP Class 1 Chief Marine Engineer ticket or a Marine Engineering degree, a minimum of 5 years active seagoing experience or 10 years seagoing career time as a Marine Engineer along with 4 years as Superintendent. Key Deliverables:
1. Collaborate with Business Unit leaders to provide 100% safe, fully operational vessels and assets that meet business objectives.
2. Oversee all aspects of ship management & managing the team of Superintendents to deliver optimised performance within safety and budgetary KPI’s.
3. Ensure vessel compliance with PSC, Flag State, and Classification Society regulations.
4. Maintain and monitor PMS (Planned Maintenance System) across all vessels and assets.
5. Develop long-term operational planning strategies to minimise risk.
6. Oversee obsolete equipment strategy and vessel life extension programmes.
7. Manage OPEX and CAPEX planning, budgeting, and KPI control.
8. Oversee Fleet H & M and P & I matters.
9. Ensure safe, timely, and efficient planning and execution of all docking and repair periods.
10. Support decision-making on marine technology and asset capital investments.
11. Collaborate with Finance to maintain cost control and accurate forecasting.
12. Work with Procurement to optimise supply chain performance and after-sales support.
13. Ensure timely and cost-effective execution of vessel mobilisations, upgrades, and new builds, in collaboration with Engineering.
14. Manage and develop both offshore and onshore staff to meet statutory and industry competency requirements.
15. Oversee service providers to ensure vessels and projects are resourced with competent personnel.
16. Guide the development and monitoring of management systems and processes to maintain best industry practices.
17. Ensure compliance with legislation and maintain accreditation to ISO standards and ISM Code.
18. Lead the group’s ESG plan.
19. Deputise for the Managing Director of Asset Operations and Development during absence.
20. Undertake additional tasks as required by the Managing Director of Asset Operations.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Required:
21. DTP Class 1 Chief Marine Engineers ticket or Marine Engineering Degree.
22. Minimum 5 years active seagoing time or 10 years seagoing career time as a Marine Engineer.
23. Minimum 4 years as a Superintendent, with at least 1 year in a senior management role.
24. Extensive experience overseeing at least 5 dry dockings as Superintendent-in-charge.
25. Prior experience in a senior ship management role within a complex organisation with OPEX > £30 million.
26. Strong leadership skills, with the ability to translate strategy into practical actions and communicate effectively at Board level.
27. Proven ability to manage small to medium-sized, culturally diverse, multi-disciplinary international teams.
28. Experience managing technical teams and are expected to possess established relationships across the marine supply chain.
29. In-depth knowledge of ISM Code and ISO accreditation standards.
30. In depth Knowledge of PMS systems and control.
31. In depth Knowledge of Classification rules and limitations.
32. Flexible, proactive approach with ability to travel at short notice.
33. Must be a U.K. Passport Holder and have the right to work in the U.K. plus hold a current U.K. driving licence.
Ideal:
34. Experience in crewing and QHSE functions.
35. Track record of leading transformation projects to improve vessel operations.
36. Previous management-level ESG experience.
37. Strong senior-level stakeholder management and industry representation skills.
38. Understanding of long-term crewing strategies aligned with fleet deliverables.
39. Senior sailing experience on a telecom cable ship.
40. Based or willing to move to the Northeast of England area.
41. Previous build or Standing By build experience.
42. Always looking for innovative continual improvement solutions.
Location: This role is based in the Washington, North East office and follows a hybrid working arrangement, with working 3 days in the office and 2 days working remotely each week.
