Overview
The Environment Agency is recruiting a fixed-term role up to 2 years for someone with experience of working in or regulating energy sectors, including combustion plants, waste incineration and refineries. The UK’s strategy to deliver Net Zero is driving a transformation in the energy sectors, and effective regulation is needed to protect people and the environment from emissions while mitigating and adapting to climate change.
You will be part of the Energy & COMAH team within Energy and Manufacturing Industries Regulation of Environment & Business (E&B) Directorate, contributing to standards for the sector and delivering environmental outcomes.
Responsibilities
* Provide expert support and technical leadership through advice, guidance, and training.
* Develop strategy for our sectors and produce tools to regulate, support development, and deliver environmental outcomes.
* Commission and manage external research projects where needed.
* Work with internal and external stakeholders such as Defra, DESNZ, internal operations teams, trade associations and other key industry players.
* Respond to incidents as a central part of the role and be available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident.
The Energy & COMAH team leads on the definition of standards for our sectors, providing strategic direction and tools to support regulation, guidance and training to deliver new duties, and environmental best practice.
Experience / Skills Required
* Ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures and actively encourage consideration of diversity in work.
* Relevant technical and regulatory knowledge, and experience of the work area for the role, gained by working within or regulating relevant processes, including knowledge of control measures for emissions to air where relevant.
* Ability to build and maintain good relationships with colleagues, operators, partner regulators, government, trade bodies and academia.
* Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team to achieve common goals.
