Offer description

About the Role Ready to shape the future of nuclear safety and help Britain achieve net zero? Passionate about using quantitative methods to justify safe operations? At EDF, Success is Personal -your career journey is yours to shape. We have two openings within our department for Fault Analysis Safety Case Engineers. Our nuclear power stations justify safe operation through comprehensive analysis of potential plant faults and hazards and the downstream risk to nuclear safety of employees and the public. Both roles we have are primarily safety case engineer roles - one with a focus on Probabilistic Safety Analysis (PSA) and another with a more general fault analysis perspective. You will develop and maintain safety cases using both deterministic and probabilistic methods, lead Engineering Changes (ECs), provide safety case advice and emergent technical support to the station and other departments, and maintain the integrity of the design over the entire station lifetime to achieve a continuous high level of safety. The role includes being a key interface with the UK nuclear regulator. We have a specific need in fault analysis and PSA, but successful applicants will work flexibly across different technical disciplines, with training and mentoring support provided where needed. The work will focus on supporting safe generation at Sizewell B, the UK’s only generating PWR, and extending its generating lifetime to at least 2055. This is a hybrid role based at our Gloucester or Glasgow office, with flexibility to work from home and a minimum of three days in the office per week. What You’ll Be Doing Developing and maintaining safety cases using deterministic and probabilistic methods Producing new or revised safety cases for normal operation, reactor faults and hazards Conducting and reviewing probabilistic analysis and managing models and data Providing safety case advice and maintaining safety case health Interfacing with the UK Nuclear Regulator Who You Are We’re looking for experienced engineers or technical professionals - which could include physicists, mathematicians, or similar - ideally with a proven record of delivery in a safety assessment role within a safety-critical environment. You’ll thrive on technical challenges and collaboration, and we want you to contribute to, and ultimately take a lead in, technically challenging work. Essential: Minimum of HNC or equivalent in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or similar Experience in safety assessment roles such as PSA, fault studies or safety case development Ability to apply engineering judgement to identify fit-for-purpose solutions Strong communication skills and ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting, which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least three of the past five years. Pay, Benefits and Culture We are offering a starting salary of between £61,730 and £95,993, with terms and conditions covered by the EDF Nuclear Generation Company Agreement. The starting salary for the appointment will be dependent on your existing salary, competence, experience and qualifications.
