Role: Health & Safety Manager Location: Leeds Salary: £45,000-£50,000pa - depending on experience Hours: Flexi-hours, 40 hours per week Hybrid: 2 days available About the role: Our client, a premium retail business based in Leeds, has an exciting opportunity for an experienced, qualified Health & Safety Manager to join their dynamic team. The role is key to ensuring our client provides a safe, compliant and engaging working environment for all colleagues across their warehouse, Head Office and retail operations. You will lead their health, safety and compliance strategy, driving continuous improvement, maintaining legislative compliance and fostering a positive, proactive safety culture throughout the business. Drawing on your technical expertise and strong people skills, you will manage workplace risks, oversee audits and inspections and promote preventative measures across all sites. Key Responsibilities of the Health & Safety Manager: Take ownership of the company's Health & Safety Policy, keeping it fresh, compliant and fully aligned with evolving legislation and HSE best practice. Champion a positive safety culture across the business, leading the Disaster Recovery Plan and inspiring teams to put safety at the heart of everything they do. Stay ahead of legislative changes, driving timely updates to internal policies and ensuring the business remains compliant and forward thinking. Proactively manage all risk assessments, safe systems of work, COSHH reviews and ensure that corrective actions from audits, inspections, and incident investigations are completed without delay. Lead on RIDDOR reporting and act as a confident, knowledgeable contact for regulatory bodies and external agencies, including HSE and Fire Services. Maintain meticulous H&S records and coordinate training programmes, inductions, toolbox talks, and fire safety procedures that keep teams confident and competent. Track and present H&S KPIs to the Board, offering clear insights and well informed recommendations for improvement. Support occupational health, wellbeing, and return to work processes in partnership with HR, while also collaborating with Facilities on environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives. Work hand in hand with the Warehouse Manager to ensure smooth, safe daily operations, strong PPE compliance and up to date licences, permits, and equipment checks. Drive continuous improvement across warehouse and operational processes, enhancing safety, accuracy and efficiency. Oversee space planning, equipment needs, and workflow optimisation, while supporting stock management and audit procedures that keep operations running at their best. Build strong relationships with the Board, Senior Leadership, HR, Warehouse, Retail and Head Office Managers, ensuring a unified approach to health, safety and operational excellence. Skills & Experience Required: NEBOSH National Diploma (or equivalent) is essential with a commitment to ongoing professional development. Chartered Member of IOSH (CMIOSH) or actively working towards chartered status. Proven experience managing health, safety and compliance in a complex operational environment is required. Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation, risk management, and compliance reporting. Excellent communication, influencing and record keeping skills. Ultra organised person.
