The role
As a Commercial Advisor, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. This is a great opportunity to become part of a small and passionate commercial team, in a role which can be challenging but also varied and fulfilling. The commercial team in this area provides commercial oversight and support to deliver a critical qualifying defence contract of significant value.
Day-to-day, you'll provide commercial support to infrastructure improvement projects, so some familiarity with works/construction contracting is highly desirable.
1. Provide advice and drafting in relation to customer and supplier terms and conditions, ensuring compliance with all internal processes and the assessment and effective treatment of risk
2. Gain an understanding of any head contract terms and conditions and how these flow down to the subcontract supply chain, in order to eliminate/reduce risk during the pre-contract period
3. Provide commercial input to requisite gate reviews, bid papers and supporting internal governance for new opportunities, contract changes and new infrastructure works projects
4. Managing (under guidance of Senior Commercial Manager) commercial and contractual aspects with the customer and ensuring compliance within the required internal corporate governance and approvals
5. Act as a role model, consultant and 'commercial' coach within area of responsibility to the Project teams to ensure consistency of approach in commercial awareness and developing and maintaining positive relationships
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 3 days in the office/onsite and 2 days working from home.
Essential experience of the Commercial Advisor:
6. Commercial experience in management of contracts, bids and change initiatives
7. Demonstrable evidence of developing effective customer relationships and confident at negotiating independently within agreed delegations
8. Good communication, presentation, networking and negotiation skills
9. Attention to detail with the ability to identify commercial risks, propose steps to mitigate, and communicate effectively
Qualifications for the Commercial Advisor:
10. Educated to degree level with relevant degree (ideally Business or Law) or equivalent qualification or relevant experience.
