Institutional Credit Management (ICM), provides integrated “end-to-end” credit underwriting, identification, measurement, management, and monitoring for wholesale credit risk across the enterprise. Within ICM, the Credit Underwriting function (ICM-UW) provides analysis, underwriting, first-line-of-defense credit approval and subsequent credit monitoring.
The Underwriter is a seasoned professional role.
1. Applies in-depth disciplinary knowledge, contributing to the development of new techniques and the improvement of processes and workflow for the area or function.
2. Integrates subject matter and industry expertise within a defined area.
3. Requires in-depth understanding of how areas collectively integrate within the sub-function as well as coordinate and contribute to the objectives of the function and overall business.
4. Evaluates moderately complex and variable issues with substantial potential impact, where development of an approach/taking of an action involves weighing various alternatives and balancing potentially conflicting situations using multiple sources of information.
5. Requires good analytical skills in order to filter, prioritize and validate potentially complex and dynamic material from multiple sources.
6. Strong communication and diplomacy skills are required.
7. Significant impact in terms of project size, geography, etc. by influencing decisions through advice, counsel and/or facilitating services to others in area of specialization.
8. Work and performance of all teams in the area are directly affected by the performance of the individual.
Responsibilities:
9. Ensures Credit Approval Memo (CAM) packages are complete, accurate and thoroughly documented
10. Support Senior Underwriters in making recommendations/credit decisions, including riskratings and regulatory classifications
11. Conducts in-depth analyses of financial data and other information provided by the client
12. Conducts projection modeling, stress testing and other analyses using research and evaluations from a wide variety of sources
13. Assesses deal strengths and weaknesses and risk factors
14. Ensures all transactions are in compliance with regulatory and Citi guidelines, policies and procedures
15. Remains current on all aspects of the credit relationship, including exposure, compliance, and potential credit concerns
16. Oversees periodic relationship credit monitoring including Annual Reviews (ARs), Quarterly Reviews (QRs), and Criticized Credit Reviews (CCRs)
17. Notifies bankers of any deterioration in operating performance based on financial reporting
18. Supports the Senior Underwriter and Underwriter during internal reviews (BICR, COBRA, IA) and external regulatory exam responses
19. Expected to be fully conversant on safe and sound risk practices within Real Estate Credit including all policies, procedures, laws, regulations and risk limits specific to their Portfolio
20. Qualifications:
21. Relevant experience in underwriting
22. Previous experience working directly in Commercial Real Estate underwriting or credit preferably in the financial services industry
23. Ability to apply credit and risk principles toward business goals
24. Demonstrated ability to synthesize, prioritize and drive results with a high sense of urgency
25. Must be highly organized and able to work in a fast-paced environment managing multiple projects and possess effective interpersonal, organizational and analytic skills
26. Solid organizational skills with ability and willingness to work under pressure and manages time and priorities effectively with little to no supervision
27. Highly effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely to audiences of varying levels of seniority
Education:
28. Bachelor’s/University degree or equivalent experience
