Support Worker – Children's Residential Care Home
Overview
We are seeking a compassionate, resilient, and dedicated Support Worker to join our Ofsted-regulated children's home. In this role, you will provide high-quality care and support to children and young people who may have experienced trauma, neglect, or adverse life experiences. Your focus will be on safeguarding, building trusting relationships, and helping each child develop the skills and confidence they need to thrive.
The ideal candidate will have experience working with children in residential, educational, or social care settings and a genuine passion for making a positive difference in their lives.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide day-to-day care and emotional support to children and young people in line with their individual care plans.
* Support children with daily routines, including meals, personal care (where appropriate), and school attendance.
* Promote independence, resilience, and life skills in a safe and nurturing environment.
* Build positive, professional relationships with children that encourage trust and stability.
* Actively safeguard children, following safeguarding and child protection policies at all times.
* Manage challenging behaviour using de-escalation techniques and approved behaviour management strategies.
* Encourage children's participation in activities that promote social, educational, and emotional development.
* Maintain accurate records, including daily logs, incident reports, and progress updates in line with Ofsted standards.
* Liaise with families, social workers, schools, and other professionals to ensure consistent and holistic support.
* Contribute to household tasks, ensuring the home is welcoming, safe, and compliant with regulations.
* Support children with appointments, outings, and community engagement to broaden their experiences.
Requirements
* Experience in children's residential care, youth work, education, or a similar support role (preferred but not essential).
* Knowledge of safeguarding, child protection, and the needs of looked-after children.
* Resilience and patience in supporting children with emotional and behavioural difficulties.
* Strong communication skills with the ability to engage children, families, and professionals.
* Willingness to undertake mandatory training, including safeguarding and behaviour management.
* NVQ Level 3 in Children & Young People (or working towards) is desirable but not essential.
* A genuine commitment to helping children achieve positive outcomes and reach their full potential.
