Overview
Are you interested in a role with flexible working hours, the chance to meet people from diverse communities, and to have a positive impact on your local community? The Office for National Statistics (ONS) is the UK’s largest producer of official statistics, covering key economic, social and demographic topics, including measuring changes in the value of the UK economy, estimating population size and characteristics, and providing indicators of price inflation, employment, earnings, crime and migration. This is an exciting opportunity to join a modern, innovative and inclusive team at the heart of public service delivery.
Job description
This is a great opportunity to join our team as a Field Interviewer working for the Office for National Statistics via AMS. As a Field Interviewer carrying out official surveys you will help inform Government about the state of the nation.
The role will start with 5 weeks of comprehensive training to ensure your success in the role. The Field Interviewer role will be a mix of visiting sampled addresses to encourage them to complete surveys as well as interviewing respondents in their homes. This role is not office based. You are required to work within a 40-mile radius (approximately) of an allocated location. Your work will be allocated to ensure that you can travel and complete your work within your contracted hours in this area. Therefore, you need to consider how you will be able to achieve this based on your home location in comparison to your chosen location preference.
This role comes with flexible working hours that we hope will meet your needs as well as ours. This will be broadly equivalent to 22 hours work per week. To ensure that we reach respondents, interviews will need to be conducted between 09:00 – 20:00 and there is a potential for admin and travel time outside of these hours. Interviews will need to work across mornings, afternoons, and evenings and are contracted to work Monday to Saturday.
Responsibilities
* Carry out official surveys as a Field Interviewer for the ONS via AMS, visiting sampled addresses and interviewing respondents in their homes.
* Plan, organise and manage your own workload with full training and support provided.
* Ensure interviews are conducted within the required hours and within your allocated travel radius.
What we are looking for
We are looking for individuals who have a friendly, outgoing personality and the confidence to approach and converse with a wide selection of people. You will need excellent communication skills to be the face of ONS and, where needed, to persuade reluctant members of the public to take part in our surveys and to be interviewed. You will also be responsible for planning, organising and managing your own workloads, with full training and support provided.
* Be able to transport and carry equipment such as a laptop and survey materials, and occasionally walk between addresses and navigate stairs in the field.
* Live within a 10 mile radius of the location and be able to travel to addresses within a 40 mile radius from the advertised location.
* Interviews must be conducted between 09:00 – 20:00 with hours split across mornings, afternoons, and evenings, with flexibility to work Saturdays if required.
* Experience using a laptop and a smartphone.
* Be self-disciplined, self-motivated and able to work without supervision.
* Have excellent verbal communication skills and enjoy meeting and talking to people.
