Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant – Secondary School (Treorchy)

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment, builds strong relationships quickly, and is committed to supporting pupils with behavioural, emotional, and social needs (BESD/SEMH).
What You’ll Be Doing
* Providing 1:1 and small group behaviour support for pupils with SEMH and challenging behaviour.
* Building trusting, positive relationships with identified pupils as a mentor and role model.
* Supporting teachers within the classroom to maintain engagement, focus, and positive routines.
* Using calm, confident de-escalation strategies to manage challenging situations.
* Helping create a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment.
* Supporting behaviour plans, ALN strategies, and personalised interventions.
* Working closely with teachers, pastoral teams, parents/carers, and external agencies.
* Tracking and recording pupil progress, behaviour, and mentoring outcomes.
What are we looking for:
Essential
* Experienced supporting young people (education, youth work, care, sports coaching, mentoring, etc.)
* Confident managing and de-escalating challenging behaviour.
* Calm, patient, empathetic, and resilient.
* Able to communicate clearly and build strong, supportive relationships.
* A team player with a positive, proactive attitude.
Desirable
* Experience in a secondary school setting.
* Knowledge of ALN, SEMH, trauma-informed practice, or restorative approaches.
* Relevant qualifications (TA Level 2/3, Youth Work, etc.)
* A driver is preferred but not essential for this specific Treorchy role.

Contract: Full-time, Term-time only
Pay: £89.38 – £100 per day (DOE)
