Flying Start Senior Childcare Worker – Gladstone Road, Barry
Supporting Early Years Development and Care
The London Borough of Waltham Forest is seeking an experienced Senior Childcare Worker to support the Flying Start programme at our Gladstone Road setting in Barry.
This role involves supporting the planning, delivery, and supervision of high-quality childcare for children under 3 years old. Candidates must have relevant early years qualifications and experience in a regulated childcare setting.
Role Overview
This is a temporary position for 4+ months, with the possibility of part-time (18.5 hours/week) or full-time (35 hours/week) hours. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and supporting early years provision, maintaining high standards of care and development, and ensuring regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
* Act as Deputy in the absence of the Childcare Leader.
* Lead planning meetings to ensure activities are age and stage appropriate and support all areas of development.
* Prepare weekly staff rotas in line with children's routines and staffing needs.
* Support termly transition sessions for children and parents.
* Liaise with parents and relevant professionals regarding children's care, development and wellbeing.
* Act as Key Worker for a small group of children and complete developmental assessments.
* Maintain CIW standards for regulated childcare.
* Work flexibly across different childcare settings when required.
* Maintain confidentiality at all times.
* Attend relevant training and manage own continuing professional development (CPD).
* Follow safeguarding procedures and report concerns immediately.
* Comply with Council policies, including Health and Safety, Equal Opportunities, Environmental and Financial regulations.
* Undertake any other duties appropriate to the role and grade.
Essential Requirements
* Level 4 qualification in Children's Care, Learning, Play and Development (CCLPD – Advanced Practitioner) or equivalent.
* Experience working with children under 3 years old in a regulated Early Years setting.
* Enhanced DBS check covering both barred lists (required under Flying Start).
* Strong understanding of safeguarding and child development.
* Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Desirable Qualifications
* Ability to speak Welsh (desirable for Welsh Medium setting).
* Experience supporting transition processes within Early Years settings.
Key Skills
* Strong organisational skills.
* Ability to plan and deliver age-appropriate activities.
* Knowledge of child development and safeguarding procedures.
* Ability to work independently and under pressure.
* Excellent communication with children, parents, and colleagues.
