Location: Central Oxford
Salary: 32K - 35K
Permanent Role:
5 days a week on site

We are seeking a detail-oriented Finance Assistant to join a busy finance team within a prestigious academic environment. This is a varied role that involves managing student and member billing, credit control, banking reconciliations, and providing general finance support. You'll play a key part in ensuring accurate financial records and delivering a high standard of service to students, staff, and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Maintain accurate accounts for students and members, ensuring timely invoicing for amodation, meals, subscriptions, and other charges.
2. Process scholarships, bursaries, grants, and prizes with correct authorisation and reconciliation.
3. Ensure data consistency between student management systems and finance systems.
4. Act as the first point of contact for billing and payment queries.
Credit Control:
5. Monitor outstanding balances and manage debt collection in line with procedures.
6. Prepare aged debt reports and escalate overdue accounts where necessary.
7. Liaise with relevant departments on tuition fees and scholarships.
Banking & Reconciliation:
8. Reconcile ie streams and resolve discrepancies promptly.
General Finance Support:
9. Assist with purchase invoices, payments, and supplier/customer record maintenance.
10. Support month-end and year-end processes, including journal postings and schedules.
11. Provide cover for other finance functions when required.
12. Assist with audits and contribute to process improvements.
Essential:
13. AAT qualification or equivalent experience.
14. Previous experience in finance or accounts administration, including reconciliations and billing.
15. Knowledge of double-entry accounting and general ledger processes.
16. Strong credit control skills with a professional approach.
17. Excellent numeracy, accuracy, and attention to detail.
18. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
19. Experience with accounting software (, Sage, Xero, Opera).
20. Strong organisational and time-management skills.
21. Clearmunication skills and ability to explain financial matters to non-specialists.
22. Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
