Position: Social Worker – Looked After Children (LAC) Team
Overview:
Somerset Council is looking for an experienced Social Worker to join the Looked After Children (LAC) Team. This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated professional who is passionate about improving the lives of children and young people in care. You will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality social work services to children and families, ensuring their safety and well-being.
Role Summary:
As a Social Worker in the LAC Team, you will work directly with looked-after children, young people, and their families, ensuring that their needs are met in a timely and effective manner. You will manage a complex caseload, complete assessments, and develop care plans while working collaboratively with a range of professionals to deliver the best possible outcomes for the children and families you support.
Key Responsibilities:

Complete assessments, care planning, and reviews for looked-after children.

Develop and implement plans that meet the needs and outcomes of children and young people.
*
Ensure that children and young people are safeguarded and their welfare is promoted.
*
Work collaboratively with parents, carers, and multi-disciplinary teams to support positive outcomes.
*
Attend and participate in court proceedings and reviews.
*
Work with children and young people to understand their needs and ensure they are heard and their views considered.
*
Liaise with other agencies and service providers to deliver integrated care.
Skills and Experience Required:
*
Social Work Degree (BA or MA in Social Work).
*
HCPC Registration as a qualified social worker.
*
Proven experience working with children and families, specifically in a Looked After Children setting.
*
Excellent knowledge of Child Protection and Looked After Children (LAC) legislation.
*
Ability to assess and manage complex cases.
*
Strong communication skills (verbal and written) and the ability to work collaboratively with various agencies.
*
Ability to effectively manage your time and caseload, working autonomously when required.
*
Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Basic Qualifications Required:

Social Work Degree (BA or MA in Social Work).
*
HCPC Registration as a qualified social worker.
*
Post-qualification experience in working with Looked After Children or children’s social services.
*
Enhanced DBS Check (Disclosure and Barring Service).
