The Role
* As part of a multidisciplinary team, the post holder will demonstrate leadership and have independent specialist clinical expertise in sexual and reproductive health.
* Responsibility for the assessment of care needs and the implementation and evaluation of these needs.
* The person will direct, co‑ordinate and supervise, where appropriate, the work of others within the area to promote best practice in line with professional accountability. The post holder with be the named person to liaise with other specialist services.
* To provide specialist nursing in the area of contraception, pregnancy and sexual health This includes the assessment for and the provision of contraception, sexual health information and screening, pregnancy testing and discussion of further management.
* In the absence of Team Leader to act up as required.
The working pattern for this role is Monday - Friday: day and evening shift.
In this key role, you will:
Responsible for the assessment of sexual and reproductive health care needs (including a detailed sexual health history) and the development, implementation and evaluation of these outcomes to ensure the delivery of a high standard of care.
Clinical duties include:
* The use of PGD’s to give first and subsequent supply of contraceptive pills, injections and implant insertion/removal.
* Client teaching e.g. pill taking
* Health Screening e.g. cervical cytology
* Health education and promotion e.g. safer sex
* Chaperoning medical staff and other colleagues
* Assisting with invasive procedures e.g. coil/ implant insertion
* Facilitation of client decision making by informing (evidence based) and advising
* Work within and provide a discrete safe and confidential environment for the broad range of clients accessing the service
What You’ll Bring
* General Nurse or Registered Midwife with Family Planning/GUM Qualification.
* Post registration experience
* Experience in FP/GUM specialist setting
* Evidence of further education/Continuous Professional Development
* The post holder will be required to demonstrate excellent team leadership skills with the ability to work using own initiative.
From 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will reduce from 37 hours to 36 hours. Part-time working hours will be reduced on a pro‑rata basis. A corresponding increase in the hourly rate will apply, ensuring that overall pay remains unchanged.
