Overview
The College is seeking to appoint a high performing Clerk to support the functions of the Full Governing Body. Clerks are governance professionals who are good at organising others, willing to continually embrace changes to education and committed to their role. The Clerk will provide advice and guidance to the governing body on governance, constitutional and governance matters and will provide highly effective procedural and administrative support. The Clerk will ensure the governing body works within legal compliance and meets the regulatory framework. Completion of the National Training Programme for Clerks to Governing Bodies would be desirable but a willingness to work towards this would be accepted. It is essential to be reliable, able to work flexible hours and be available for all Board meetings and associated events. This role is predominantly evening work to cover approximately all Committee and Full Corporation meetings per year. Meetings normally start between 4:30pm and 6:30pm. Apart from attendance at meetings, the role could be carried out partly from home with access to a computer, home printer and the internet; a workstation in College will also be provided. Responsibilities
The Clerk will:
* Provide advice and guidance to the governing body on governance, constitutional and governance matters.
* Provide highly effective procedural and administrative support to the Full Governing Body and its committees.
* Ensure the governing body operates within legal compliance and the regulatory framework.
* Act as a trusted communications link among the Chair of the Corporation, the Principal, and the Governing Body.
* Demonstrate core competencies of ethical behavior, probity, and commitment to excellence.
* Be reliable, flexible, and available for all Board meetings and related events.
* Support the governance process, including attendance at meetings (primarily in the evenings).
* Identify and facilitate professional development opportunities, including consideration of the National Training Programme for Clerks to Governing Bodies.
Qualifications and Expectations
* Experience in governance or related administration is desirable.
* Willingness to work towards the National Training Programme for Clerks to Governing Bodies.
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively, manage time effectively, and communicate clearly.
* Commitment to ethical conduct and safeguarding requirements.
