Overview
Specialist Community Perinatal Mental Health Occupational Therapist (Band 5) 1x fulltime post (37.5hrs) and 1x 30hrs post. We are looking to recruit 2 band 5 community occupational therapists to join our team. We are a specialist community perinatal team working with women experiencing severe mental health issues in the perinatal period. The team is made up of OTs, mental health practitioners, psychologists/psychotherapists, parent infant psychotherapists, nursery nurses, peer support workers and psychiatrists.
The posts advertised are to cover Huddersfield and Calderdale. The post is agile and although there is plenty of trust buildings to work from, the team are also working from home regularly. Being a car driver is essential due to the distance required to travel when completing home-visits.
Responsibilities
* Work with women and their families in their own homes, and in the community, providing 1:1 occupational therapy intervention to promote occupation and functioning.
* Provide occupational therapy assessments prioritising the nature, complexity and urgency of each case.
* Plan and implement an occupational therapy treatment programme on an individual and/or group basis, using graded activity to achieve therapeutic goals.
* Monitor, evaluate and modify treatment to measure progress and the effectiveness of intervention.
* Act as care coordinator for a designated caseload with support and supervision from a senior practitioner in line with CPA procedures and risk management protocol.
* Adopt a client-centred and sensitive approach to therapy, collaborating with clients (and/or carers) in all aspects of the therapy process.
* Select and conduct occupational therapy assessments addressing physical, psychosocial, behavioural, perceptual, cognitive, sensory, and environmental needs.
* Provide training and advice on lifestyle changes and adaptations to the client’s psychosocial and physical environment, with referrals where appropriate.
* Work proactively with other staff and clients to meet needs and help individuals integrate with the local community, using practical problem-solving approaches.
* Provide occupational therapy reports on assessment and treatment to Consultants, GPs and other agencies, and ensure prompt handling of caseload correspondence.
* Contribute the occupational therapy perspective in MDT meetings, ward rounds, clinics and case conferences as required.
* Maintain up-to-date records and activity data in line with professional and Trust standards and policies.
* Demonstrate the ability to work flexibly to meet service needs and the client group, including occasional extended hours when needed.
Qualifications and Experience
* Essential: HCPC registration; COT Diploma or BSc Occupational Therapy Degree OR Pre-registration; MSc Occupational Therapy (desirable).
* Essential: Willingness to undertake Practice Placement Education and Trust/identified training.
* Essential: Knowledge and application of OT process within a clinical setting; ability to plan and coordinate treatment packages; ability to manage own workload and priorities; understanding of multi-disciplinary working; computer literacy; knowledge of health legislation and CPA principles; understanding of health, safety and risk management policies.
* Essential: Documented evidence of continuing professional development.
* Desirable: Training in OT-specific assessments (e.g., MOHO).

* Standard professional requirements: current UK registration; DBS clearance as applicable; eligibility to work in the UK; ability to travel for home visits (driving licence preferred).

Hours: 1x fulltime (37.5hrs) and 1x 30hrs post; pattern: Full-time, Part-time, Flexible working. Salary: £31,049 to £37,796 per year Pro Rata. Contract: Permanent.
