At Hereford Contract Canning, we are proud to be a forward-thinking, inclusive, and ambitious company. Due to recent investment and new customer acquisitions, we're expanding our team and seeking a Project Manager to play a key role in our engineering function.
About the role:
As Project Manager, reporting directly to the Head of Engineering, you'll lead and develop the Projects and Continuous Improvement teams, ensuring the delivery of engineering objectives that align with our strategic goals.
You'll work closely with both engineering and manufacturing departments, driving new initiatives, improving equipment effectiveness, developing people, and fostering a lean, safety-first culture.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead and deliver CAPEX projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
* Ensure engineering support is always in place to meet operational needs.
* Deliver training for engineers and operators on new machinery.
* Champion health and safety compliance, including risk assessments and safe working procedures, with ongoing reviews and updates.
* Oversee and manage multiple projects, ensuring they are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
* Support and implement processes to monitor and improve overall equipment effectiveness.
* Develop and manage budgets in collaboration with the Head of Engineering; analyse variances and implement corrective actions.
* Conduct Safety and Operability Reviews for all projects.
* Ensure compliance with engineering regulations (e.g., PAT, PSSR, LOLER, LEV, PUWER) and act on findings to maintain safety and legal standards.
* Drive a continuous improvement culture, increasing productivity and equipment efficiency.
* Ensure no impact on product safety, quality or legality.
Required Skills:
* Proven experience in a project management role within a manufacturing or FMCG environment, ideally in drinks production.
* A degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent apprenticeship with strong mechanical/electrical knowledge.
* Experience managing multiple, complex projects in a high-speed manufacturing environment.
* Formal Project Management qualifications (e.g., PRINCE2 or equivalent).
* Health & Safety qualifications (e.g., SMSTS) and strong working knowledge of CDM regulations.
* In-depth understanding of regulatory compliance and engineering standards.
* Strong leadership skills, with experience managing, coaching, and developing teams.
* Excellent communication and IT skills.
* A solution-focused mindset, with a strong drive for continuous improvement.
