Job Summary
The Modern Institute is an internationally recognised commercial art gallery representing over 50 artists, with a dynamic programme of exhibitions and international art fairs.
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Finance Assistant to join our Finance team. This is an exciting opportunity to build a career in finance within a leading creative organisation, working closely with the Finance Manager and Director of Finance across all day-to-day, monthly and quarterly financial operations.
This role offers hands on exposure to a busy finance function in a fast paced, internationally connected environment. Training will be provided, making this an ideal opportunity for a recent graduate looking to take their first step into an industry finance role.
Responsibilities
* Posting and reconciling daily bank transactions, sales and purchase ledger entries in Sage, ensuring accurate project and department tagging
* Managing three currency bank accounts and credit card accounts, preparing monthly reconciliations
* Preparing weekly cash flow updates and reconciliations
* Petty cash management and reconciliation
* Assisting with artist statement preparation and ensuring accurate project allocation
* Posting financial information to our custom art database accurately and in a timely manner
* Posting and reconciling credit card statements
* Uploading monthly exchange rates and updating Sage
* Tracking exhibition and art fair budgets against actual expenditure
* Raising invoices
* Supporting the preparation of quarterly management accounts
* Preparing ad hoc financial reports as required
* Assisting with general office administration, including calls, supplies management across two sites and gallery assistant duty as and when required.
About You
We're looking for someone who is:

* Proactive and able to take initiative
* Comfortable managing multiple priorities
* A clear and confident communicator
* Enthusiastic about developing a career in finance
* Finance experience or educational background in Finance / Accounts
Experience with Sage 50 or similar accounting software is advantageous but not essential as training will be provided. An interest in or experience of, working in a creative environment is also welcomed.

The role is office based in Glasgow City Centre.
Working hours
This is a part-time role (four days per week), with working days to be agreed upon. We are happy to offer flexibility for the right candidate.
