Job Title: Technician - RHS
Location: Askham Bryan College, York
Contract Type: Part-time – 14.8 hours, Permanent
Salary: £23,815 per annum, pro rata
About the role:
We are seeking an individual to support the effective delivery of the RHS Level 2 Practical Horticulture by assisting with lesson preparation, student supervision, plant specimen collection, and resource coordination. The technician will work closely with the Course Manager and glasshouse staff to ensure high-quality learning experiences and successful student outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
* Prepare tools, materials, and plant specimens for practical sessions.
* Assist in setting up and dismantling practical lesson areas.
* Ensure all resources are available and in good condition prior to sessions.
* Support the supervision of students during practical lessons.
* Provide guidance on safe and effective horticultural practices.
* Assist with student queries and help maintain a productive learning environment.
* Collect and prepare plant specimens for practical assessments.
* Aid in the smooth running of assessment days, ensuring all materials and setups are ready.
* Maintain accurate records related to practical assessments.
* Glasshouse & Plant Stock Management
* Liaise with glasshouse staff to ensure timely preparation of plant materials and resources.
* Assist in the maintenance and care of departmental plant stocks.
* Monitor plant health and report any issues to relevant staff.
* Work closely with the Course Manager to coordinate lesson plans and resource needs.
* Communicate effectively with students, staff, and external suppliers as required.
* Contribute to team meetings and planning sessions.
Candidates should be educated to at least RHS Level 2 or above in a relevant subject. With excellent knowledge of practical Horticulture,

Start Date: The College operates 2 starter/induction days per month to welcome and onboard new members. These are usually the first Monday and third Wednesday of each month (unless there is a bank holiday).
