Drive improvement. Make a difference. We’re looking for a curious, confident and motivated Scrutiny Officer who wants to influence how local services are shaped and delivered. This is a varied and rewarding role at the heart of local democracy. You’ll work closely with elected Members and senior officers, supporting decision‑making and helping ensure transparency, accountability and positive outcomes for our communities. What you’ll be doing Developing and delivering engaging scrutiny work programmes Leading and supporting in‑depth reviews on key local issues Gathering, analysing and interpreting evidence to inform decisions Turning complex information into clear, impactful reports and recommendations Supporting scrutiny committees and contributing to the wider work of Democratic Services, including ICT improvements, civic activity and elections What we’re looking for You’ll bring: Experience (or strong knowledge) of local government or the public sector Excellent analytical and communication skills Confidence in using and improving data and digital tools The ability to manage competing priorities in a politically neutral environment A proactive, inquisitive mindset and a commitment to making a difference What we offer Flexible, hybrid working that supports work-life balance The opportunity to work on high-profile, meaningful issues that impact local communities A supportive team environment with opportunities to develop your skills and career Please note that the role will involve some evening and occasional weekend work, along with increased office presence during busy periods such as elections.
