A Little More About Your Role
WSP are looking for an enthusiastic and diligent Electrical Engineer to join the Maritime team based in the UK. As part of the team, you will complement the wide experience of a highly knowledgeable and dynamic team of Maritime experts based in the UK and across the globe. You will contribute to the technical delivery of a wide range of UK‑based and international projects for a variety of clients, ranging from local authorities to private clients and international terminal operators. You will have the opportunity to provide input to all stages of project maturity, including Feasibility Studies, Concept Designs, FEED Studies, Value Engineering and Detailed Design.
You will work under the supervision of senior team members but should be able to prepare electrical deliverables such as Single Line Diagrams, cable calculations, cable block diagrams, plant layouts, cable routing, cable containment design, switchgear configuration philosophies and produce bill of materials/quantities for electrical systems in accordance with international standards and client requirements with minimum guidance. You will be required to draft electrical specifications and review contractor design submissions, assessing them against Employer requirements, specifications, national and international standards, codes and best practices.
You will work with equipment vendors on developing designs of equipment packages and participating in technical evaluations of vendor designs. You will work with owners, operators and investors to assess the condition of electrical assets and their designs for their capability, risk, opportunity and need for intervention. Additionally, you will also have an opportunity to work closely with the clients and develop project‑management skills.
Your role will be hybrid based; however, you will have the opportunity to visit sites around the UK to support some of our projects. Overseas projects often provide opportunities to travel, and you may be required to travel for short periods of time. We'd Love To Hear From You If You
* Degree or similar qualification in relevant Engineering subject supported with significant postgraduate experience in electrical design, operation, maintenance and testing.
* Attainment of or working towards professional registration with the Engineering Council UK (ECUK) at Chartered (CEng) level leading to Corporate Member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
* Chartered Engineer or working towards IEng/CEng and a member of a relevant Engineering Institute.
* The ability and desire to assume a lead role in the development of electrical deliverables or the assessment of assets under construction or in operation.
* Knowledge of design, construction and operation of power and energy projects.
* Experience working on Maritime projects, e.g., container terminals, liquid and dry bulk terminals, offshore wind, ro‑ro etc.
* Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities and civil engineering skills.
* Ability to check and produce quality technical outputs and solutions.
* Capability to coordinate and work effectively with other disciplines and team members.
* Competence in using MS office‑based software.
* Excellent communication in English, both orally and in writing.
* Personable, approachable, enthusiastic and empathetic.
* Hold a full UK Driving Licence.
* Knowledge and practical experience of one or more of the following design tools:
o AutoCAD
o Revit
o AMTECH ProDesign
o ETAP
o PSCAD
o PowerFactory (DIgSILENT)
o Dialux
o Relux
