18-month Fixed Term Contract

An exciting opportunity has become available within Dorset for an 18 month fixed term contract for an experienced No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF) Social Worker and an Adult Safeguarding Worker. You will be located in Weymouth and providing support to asylum seekers newly accommodated within Portland.

This is a full time role at 37 hours per week.
This role is fixed term for 18 months.
This post requires significant travel. You must have a vehicle (or transport we deem suitable) available for use as needed.

You must:
* have a degree in social work/Occupational Therapy or equivalent
* be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
* be able to fulfil the travel requirements of the post
This role is UK based and we will need to establish your Right to Work as part of the appointment process.

What you can expect to be doing:
As the No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF) Social Worker you will assess the social care needs of migrants with no recourse to public funds.
You will be responsible for assessing potential service users for eligibility and signposting those who are found not eligible for NRPF support to the appropriate organisations for assistance. This includes providing accurate information and advice to a wide audience including service users, internal and external stakeholders, Immigration services and medical and legal professionals.
You will assist in the timely, effective, and efficient provision of strengths based social care assessments for adults and families with no recourse to public funds.
You assess need, plan, and deliver focused intervention and support to NRPF clients to promote positive outcomes.
You will ensure that immigration issues are integral to your practice and be able to provide specialist advice on the issues affecting the NRPF client group as required.
To ensure that assessment and review procedures for NRPF clients are adhered to.
You will apply your knowledge of immigration, human rights and social care to the assessments and reviews that you undertake.
Depending on demand you may be required to undertake other strengths-based assessments supporting the residents of Dorset.
You will be working alongside a busy team as part of a Local Authority.
As the Asylum Safeguarding Social Worker you will supporting and undertake Section 42 enquiries with migrants who meet the criteria of an adult at risk in the Weymouth & Portland area. You will be working jointly with Health, Police, Community and Voluntary groups and Providers in the area to assess the needs and risks of the individuals and working within the principles of ‘Making Safeguarding Personal’.
You will be working as part of the Adult Safeguarding Team which covers the whole of the County, and depending on demand you may be required to support other safeguarding work within the area.
About you:
You will be a dynamic social worker with a strong value base and sense of person-centred practice who can use a strengths-based approach.
You will be required to have previous experience of working with asylum seekers who have had No Recourse to Public Funds and completing Care Act and Human Rights Act Assessments.
You will have excellent communication skills, enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, have a flexible approach and be able to work closely with a range of professionals.
You will be creative and passionate about enabling people to be as independent as possible.
You will need to be confident with the legal basis for practice and be able to demonstrate a good understanding of the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005, Mental Health Act 2007, Human Rights Act 1998, Equality Act 2010 and Immigration and Asylum Act 1999.

You will have a degree or equivalent in social work and be registered with Social Work England.
You will be able to fulfil the travel requirements of the post.
