Associate Director of Nursing - LTUCC

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Senior Nurse Leader to join the Directorate Triumvirate alongside the Operational Director and Clinical Director. As the ADoN, you will provide visible, compassionate and values-driven leadership, shaping the culture and professional standards of nursing across a diverse portfolio of services.

You will lead and develop nursing teams, ensuring high-quality, safe and person-centred care. Working closely with senior leaders, you will help deliver the Trust's strategic aims and True North ambitions, embedding strong governance, effective performance management and a commitment to continuous improvement.

A key part of the role will be developing a sustainable nursing workforce, overseeing recruitment, retention and safe staffing models aligned to national guidance. You will act as a professional role model, supporting the development of clinical practice, contributing to service transformation and representing nursing in key internal and external forums. This is a pivotal leadership position with real scope to influence care quality, workforce culture and service development across the Directorate.


Main duties of the job

* Provide visible, professional nursing leadership across the Directorate, ensuring high-quality care and a positive patient experience.
* Work as part of the Directorate Triumvirate, offering expert advice on nursing, quality and professional standards.
* Lead the development of a safe, skilled and competent nursing workforce, ensuring effective CPD and strong governance.
* Support delivery of a comprehensive nursing education programme and ensure compliance with specialty training standards.
* Be accountable for nursing quality, safety and workforce metrics, analysing data and leading improvement plans.
* Maintain robust governance systems, embedding effective risk management, patient safety and quality processes.
* Contribute to the delivery of Trust priorities and True North ambitions, ensuring compassionate, evidence-based care.
* Use HDFT IMPACT methodology to promote continuous improvement and learning.
* Uphold professional standards and hold teams to account for key quality and safety indicators.
* Lead the development of innovative, safe models of care aligned with system priorities.
* Ensure effective monitoring systems are in place and support inspection readiness.
* Represent nursing in multi-professional forums and contribute to place-based service development.

Person Specification


Application Form and Interview

* Master's degree in relevant discipline or working towards.
* Registered Nurse and/or Registered Midwife.
* Broad understanding of operational/NHS issues.
* Track record of achievement and personal/professional development.
* Extensive clinical and managerial credibility and experience gained at senior Midwife or equivalent level.
* Experience of Investigating Incidents and Complaints.
* Demonstrable broad clinical experience relevant to this post.
* Experience of embedding robust clinical and corporate systems at local level.
* Ability to manage resources effectively (particularly Financial and Employee Relations).
* Teaching qualification.
* Experience at senior nurse/senior midwife level (equivalent to Matron or above).
* Involvement in research.
* Experience of working with groups of patients and the w airer public on specific projects.
