Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who is passionate about delivering Outpatients musculoskeletal Physiotherapy to our Aylesbury community at Stoke Mandeville Hospital.

We pride ourselves on integrated team working and strive for best clinical practice. The post holder will have the opportunity to enhance their Outpatients musculoskeletal skills with support from Band 7 and our Band 8a Outpatients MSK Lead Physiotherapist. We strongly encourage an evidenced based approach and support staff through supervision and appraisal. There is a strong emphasis on student education. Attendance at post graduate courses is also supported.

Main duties of the job

1. To perform assessment and treatment (including The Virtual Fracture Clinic where required) for patients with complex needs, and to provide advice, guidance and information to health and social care professionals, carers and relatives and other non-professionals.
2. To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.
3. To participate in continuing professional and service development and contribute to organisational objectives.

EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria

4. Experience of at least 18 months in a junior rotational Physiotherapy post
5. Previous experience in core physiotherapy specialties including acute in-patient care, respiratory, Musculoskeletal and neurology
6. Experience of managing own caseload and prioritizing
7. Ability to work and interact effectively within an interdisciplinary team and contribute to decision making
8. Knowledge and application of evidence-based practice and clinical reasoning
9. Establish and maintain CPD Portfolio

Desirable criteria

10. Experience of on-call and weekend working in an acute NHS Hospital
11. Experience in supervision of students and junior staff
12. Experience of undertaking Senior (Band 6) role

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

Essential criteria

13. Current registration with Health Professions Council
14. Diploma /Degree in Physiotherapy

Desirable criteria

15. MCSP Membership
16. Specific formal courses appropriate to post speciality
17. Field work/clinical educators course

SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE

Essential criteria

18. Able to apply a range and depth of knowledge to the specialist clinical area of post
19. Able to make sound clinical decisions based on knowledge/experience and utilize advanced clinical reasoning skills
20. Able to carry out a range of assessments and procedures in order to make clinical assessments and diagnosis
21. Able to carry out manual therapy techniques and therapeutic handling, requiring skillful and strenuous physical effort during the day
22. Awareness of limitations of own professional abilities
23. Clear, concise verbal and written communication to ensure liaison with multi-disciplinary team, patients and carers to ensure records and reports are accurate, legal and in legible manner (in English)
24. Ability to integrate, participate and contribute as an effective member of a team
25. Ability to prioritise tasks and functions against well-reasoned standards.
26. Positive response to constructive criticism
27. Ability to plan, manage and organise required tasks within available resources (including time)
28. Use of and/or knowledge of POMR record keeping
29. Knowledge of Current related legislation (H&S, Data P. Act, etc)

31. Understand how to maintain confidentiality, privacy and dignity of patients

SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES

Essential criteria

32. Able to fulfill the physical demands of the role subject to reasonable adjustment under the terms of the Disciplinary Discrimination Act 1995
33. Able to be empathetic and handle difficult or emotional situations, using judgement to determine optimal intervention
34. Flexible to meet the needs of the service
35. Ability to participate in on call / emergency working rota

Desirable criteria

36. To have strategies for dealing with stressful interpersonal situations and frequent exposure to unpleasant working conditions
37. Full UK Driving Licence
