About the Opportunity
Communications & Photography Intern
David Zwirner is currently looking for a highly motivated Communications and Photography Intern to join our Internship Program at our London gallery.
Qualified candidates must be personable, organized, motivated, and responsible, with a strong interest in gaining hands‑on experience across multiple departments of an art gallery. Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop is a mandatory requirement for this role, along with strong attention to detail and the ability to confidently operate a DSLR camera. Awareness and interest in top arts publications and journalists is also essential. Please read the specific department descriptions carefully before applying.
What you’ll do
Press Tasks
* Creating press clippings from online and print sources in a timely manner.
* Logging weekly arts coverage in national newspapers.
* Finding gallery and artist mentions and coverage in online and in print publications (using Google Alerts, etc), then flagging these with the Marketing and Communications Assistant.
* Assisting the Marketing and Communications Assistant with the creation and consistent updating of press reports for internal and third‑party exhibitions.
* Sourcing relevant print publications from nearby newsagents, or purchasing online where necessary.
* Researching publications and journalists for possible future profile/feature/review opportunities related to forthcoming David Zwirner London exhibitions.
* Assisting with communications marketing initiatives, such as client book mailings and outreach to arts universities.
* Posting books or other packages as necessary to external PR clients & journalists as requested by the Marketing and Communications Assistant.
* Assist when needed at press previews, artist book signings, tours/talks, and other related events, some of which will take place in the evening.
* Assisting in the process of moving the press archive offsite (scan coverage, update spreadsheets, label and consolidate boxes of physical clippings ahead of shipment to storage).
Photo Tasks
* Resizing, manipulating, and preparing images for server and database use.
* Taking images with DSLR camera for social media or archival purposes.
* Assisting with image editing and rendering creation.
* Assisting with printing requests for sales purposes.
* Updating artwork records with incoming imagery.
* Providing AV documentation support during walkthroughs and events.
Archive, Library, and Book Tasks
* Assisting the Front Desk Team with book inventory management, including occasional heavy lifting.
* Supporting the maintenance, organisation, and inventory of the gallery library, with an emphasis on artist books, catalogues, and reference titles.
* Assisting with research and acquisition of books and publications for upcoming exhibitions.
* Packing and transporting books and archival materials to storage or other gallery locations.
* Assisting with book displays, publication launches, and sales viewings.
* Supporting David Zwirner Books with ongoing projects as required.
Please note that there are general/ad‑hoc intern tasks included in the role.
Desired Skills and Experience
* Strong multi‑tasking skills with the ability to prioritize and anticipate needs as well as organisational skills.
* Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work cross‑departmentally.
* Passion for and knowledge of contemporary art.
* The ability to confidently operate a DSLR camera.
* Awareness and interest in top arts publications and journalists.
* Premier Access - to private on‑site and off‑site events, such as exhibition previews, book signings, talks, and walkthroughs with gallery artists and estate members, and external curators and scholars.
