Overview
A Vacancy at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust. The Derbyshire Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) Screening Programme are seeking to recruit 2 part-time Band 4 Screening Technicians to undertake abdominal ultrasound scanning throughout the county, as part of the National AAA screening programme. This small, friendly team takes pride in delivering an excellent screening service to the population of Derbyshire.
The aim of the screening programme is to reduce deaths from ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysms with the target screening population of men in their 65th year. Men who have an aneurysm detected through screening will be offered treatment or monitoring, depending on the size of the aneurysm.
Responsibilities
* Report scan results and their implications verbally to patients at the clinic.
* Participate in health promotion, maintain safe use of ultrasound equipment and export and transfer images and results data electronically.
* Ensure ultrasound scanning is undertaken to a high standard and in accordance with National AAA Standard Operating Procedures.
* Reassure patients attending and explain the programme to them so they are informed of the implications of AAA screening and can consent, especially where barriers to understanding exist.
* Travel between sites across Derbyshire to work predominantly at community screening clinics; undertake administrative duties for the programme.
Qualifications and Skills
* Motivated and enthusiastic individuals with healthcare experience, able to work flexibly and as part of a team, organise and prioritise workload and communicate at all levels.
* To be considered for this role the successful candidate must undertake a Diploma for Health Screeners specialising in AAA within 24 months of joining the Trust.
* The post requires highly developed physical skills with a high degree of precision and hand–eye coordination.
* A driving license and access to a car fully insured for business use are required.
Role Details
* The post will be based at the Royal Derby Hospital with work across 30 community screening clinics in Derbyshire; travel between sites is essential.
* The hours will be worked flexibly over 3 days during the working day (Weekdays, start/end times can vary between 08:30–16:30) and occasional Saturdays to suit service needs.
* The post holder will also undertake administrative duties for the programme.
