Overview
This is an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified radiographer to join the breast screening management team at UHLG. The post holder will be proactive and motivated, dedicated to continuous service improvement, and responsible for the management, co-ordination and delivery of high quality radiographic services within Breast Services.
Responsibilities
* Plan, organise, coordinate and manage the radiographic aspects of Breast Services, implementing and adjusting strategies where appropriate.
* Remain an active member of the clinical radiography team, carrying out the full range of radiographic duties to the standard required by the NHS Breast Screening Programme quality guidelines.
* Undertake Continued Professional Development to maintain specialist knowledge and competencies as unit manager and clinical radiographer; identify own training and development needs through the appraisal process.
* Deputise for Breast Screening Programme Manager when required.
* Arrange and monitor preventative maintenance and breakdowns for all equipment associated with the Breast Screening Service and initiate corrective/remedial action to maintain service provision wherever possible.
* Develop and deliver induction and orientation of new staff; provide mentorship and leadership of all staff on a daily basis.
* Act as Radiation Safety Manager, including RPS role and IRMER responsibilities; liaise with other RPS and health and safety representatives to ensure a safe environment for staff and patients.
* Liaise with the multidisciplinary team involved in Breast Services and communicate effectively across professional boundaries; participate in the selection and recruitment of radiographic staff.
* Liaise with Medical Physics to ensure equipment performance to national standards.
* Contribute to strategic planning and organisation for future service provision and expansion of Breast Services.
* Coordinate the day-to-day radiographic aspects of the Liverpool Breast Screening Service across three sites (two mobile units and one static unit).
* Produce monthly staffing rotas and manage radiographic staffing across four sites, ensuring appropriate skill mix and adequate coverage.
* Maintain effective communication with Superintendent Radiographers/Programme Managers from other Breast Screening Units regionally and nationally to share best practice.
* Participate in breast screening meetings and regional NHSBSP activities; provide QA standards/activity reports as required.
* Act as IR(ME)R Lead for Breast Services: developing, implementing and reviewing IR(ME)R procedures and protocols; provide IR(ME)R training for radiographic and A&C staff.
* Act as Disability Equality Lead for Breast Services: develop and implement Disability Equality Policy; provide training for staff.
* Monitor sickness and absence in line with Trust Policy; record and monitor annual leave.
* Ensure compliance with IRR99/IR(ME)R regulations, Health and Safety, Trust policies and Data Protection.
* Maintain confidentiality of staff, patients and Trust information; communicate with patients and colleagues as needed to address queries or concerns about Breast Services.
* Be responsible for complex decisions regarding radiographic quality control data and equipment faults to maintain a safe environment for patients and staff.
* Co-ordinate radiographic activities across the three sites to ensure smooth running of the combined service.
* Oversee staff appraisals and development plans; support staff development and training initiatives.
* Contribute to service improvements and cost improvement targets; be aware of financial control and efficient resource use.
Qualifications
* DCR (R) or BSc (Hons) in diagnostic radiography
* Certificate of Competence in mammography / postgraduate award
* HCPC registration
* Evidence of recent relevant CPD
Desirable criteria
* First line management training; demonstrable Breast Screening experience; experience of first line management of clinical staff
* Experience of staff appraisals and PDPs; experience of sickness monitoring/counselling
* Experience of staff recruitment; good understanding of quality issues within NHS and NHSBSP
* Excellent communication and people skills; basic IT skills
* Ability to communicate with the wider multidisciplinary team; leadership qualities to organise clinical staff
* Ability to work unsupervised, meet deadlines and use own initiative
* Appropriate UK professional registration
