Multi-Skilled Mechanical Maintenance Engineer

Hours: Monday–Friday, 08:00–17:00 (Overtime & On‑Call Available)
About the RoleThis role is based at a major UK rail engineering and rolling‑stock overhaul facility, recently modernised following significant investment.
Recent upgrades include:
1. A state‑of‑the‑art HVAC overhaul centre with capacity growth from 16 to 35 units weekly, with future scaling to 50 units.
2. Newly developed HVAC test cells capable of reproducing real‑world climatic and operational conditions.
3. A refurbished 20,000 sq ft technical and administrative facility, blending modern workspace standards with retained industrial heritage.
4. The site also houses one of the UK’s leading centres for bogie, wheel and traction motor overhaul, with over 20,000 bogie overhaulspleted over the last decade.
5. Designated manufacturing location for next‑generation high‑speed rail bogies.
Role PurposeTo deliver high‑quality planned and reactive mechanical maintenance across aplex engineering environment. The role ensures the safe,pliant, efficient operation of mechanical plant, HVAC assets, water systems and general building services in accordance with statutory regulations and internal technical standards.Key Responsibilities1. Planned & Reactive Mechanical Maintenance
6. Undertake PPM and reactive maintenance on mechanical equipment such as pumps, motors, HVAC units, valves and associated building services plant.
7. Diagnose faults and carry out effective remedial work to minimise downtime.
8. Maintain and troubleshoot heating and air‑conditioning systems, ensuring performance andpliance.
9. Support basic electrical resets or investigations as part of a multi‑skilled engineering approach.
2. Water Systempliance
10. Maintain domestic andmercial water systems in accordance with L8 Legionella control guidelines.
11. Conduct temperature checks, flushing, sampling and relatedpliance tasks.
12. Support evaporative cooling system checks and cooling towerpliance where required.
3. Documentation &pliance
13. Record all maintenance activity using digital CAFM systems (, Frontline, Elogbooks, SAP, Prime).
14. Produce and update RAMS, ensuring adherence to statutory and internal safety standards.
15. Work in accordance with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 requirements.
4. Client & Site Operations Support
16. Engage professionally with on‑site stakeholders and internal engineering teams.
17. Supervise contractors, ensuringpliance with safety, permit-to-work and site rules.
18. Support optimisation and energy‑efficiency initiatives across mechanical systems.
5. General Mechanical / Fabric Support
19. Assist with basic fabric and plumbing tasks where required.
20. Participate in the emergency call‑out rota and escalate issues appropriately.
Qualifications & ExperienceEssential
21. Recognised Mechanical or Electrical qualification (City & Guilds / NVQ Level 2 or 3 or equivalent).
22. Strong hands‑on experience maintaining pumps, motors, HVAC systems, valves and general mechanical plant.
23. Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation; IOSH/NEBOSH beneficial.
24. Experience working with Building Management Systems (BMS).
25. Ability to produce accurate technical records and documentation.
Desirable
26. Previous experience within rail, industrial, manufacturing or highpliance environments.
27. Gasbustionpetency (if applicable).
28. PASMA / IPAF qualifications for access equipment.
