Director of AI – Chief Data Office – Role Overview

As a member of the leadership team within the Chief Data Office, you will be responsible for overseeing Artificial Intelligence initiatives. This includes establishing frameworks and processes for data‑centric AI use cases on the AI & data platforms, supporting data‑led use cases, enhancing our AI data capabilities, and fostering a culture of innovation within the organisation.

* Develop and execute a comprehensive AI strategy aligned with the CDO, the organisation’s business objectives and the CIO operating model.
* Identify and pursue innovative projects that leverage data and AI to drive business value.
* Drive experimentation through prototypes and proof‑of‑concepts by providing sandbox environments, tooling advisory, and accelerators for AI solutions.
* Research and implement the latest trends and advancements in data science and AI and integrate relevant technologies into laboratory projects.
* Design, support the development of, and oversee the deployment of machine‑learning models.
* Define and manage data‑centric AI frameworks, ensuring compliance with regulations, ethical standards, and internal policies.
* Establish an AI Data‑Centric CoE in partnership with the central AI governance function to support data‑led use cases and achieve the group’s AI ambitions.
* Build, mentor and lead a high‑performing team of data scientists and ML engineers, while providing senior leaders with recommendations and reporting on AI initiatives.


Qualifications

* Extensive background in Data Science, Machine Learning, and AI with an understanding of the insurance business, including commercial and speciality lines.
* Excellent understanding of responsible AI, data architecture, machine‑learning, and analytics frameworks, with a passion for staying up to date with the latest developments in data and AI.
* Experience with Azure, Databricks, ML platforms, and rolling out large‑language‑model solutions in an enterprise setting.
* Hands‑on experience with tools such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, and scikit‑learn, and knowledge of data engineering and cloud platforms.
* Proven leadership experience, excellent communication skills, and the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels, explaining complex AI concepts to non‑technical audiences.
* Strong knowledge of compliance frameworks and ethical AI guidelines.
