About the job you're considering
The Applied Innovation Exchange [AIE] is seeking a seasoned technical product owner to join our UK team at the heart of London's innovation scene.
You’ll be part of a small, high‑impact team – makers, breakers, doers and disruptors – who love to solve real problems with emerging technology and emerging partners.
As a Technical Product Owner, you sit at the intersection of engineering and innovation. You’re comfortable debating API architecture with a developer in the morning and presenting a rapidly created proof of value to a C‑suite client in the afternoon.
You’ll work across a portfolio of client‑facing innovation engagements spanning Consumer Products and Retail distribution, Public Sector, Energy Transition and Utilities Transport and more. On each engagement, you own the product direction – translating ambiguous business challenges into clear technical requirements, managing delivery through agile sprints, and helping clients see around corners on the technology horizon.
You’re energised by what’s emerging in AI and Gen AI, but you know how to cut through the hype. You understand what an API contract means, can hold your own in conversations about data architecture, and know how to turn that technical credibility into genuine client trust. Foundationally, you are incredible with working in a full stack team, creating an environment of trust and accountability, enabling developers, designers and innovation strategists to come together and curate a product accordingly.
You get excited by the hard problems – the ones where business constraints, technical limitations, and user needs all pull in different directions at once.
Hybrid working: The places that you work from day to day will vary according to your role, your needs, and those of the business; it will be a blend of company offices, client sites, and your home; noting that you will be unable to work at home 100% of the time.
Pre‑employment checks: if you are successfully offered this position, you will go through a series of pre‑employment checks, including identity, nationality (single or dual) or immigration status, employment history going back three continuous years, and an unspent criminal record check (known as Disclosure and Barring Service).
Your role
* Set the baseline on what is expected when delivering successful products, teaching and growing individuals across the team – this is not an individual contributor role but rather one where you will act as a leader in this domain.
* Own the product backlog, sprint ceremonies, and delivery rhythm across client‑facing innovation projects – acting as both technical product owner and de facto scrum master where the engagement demands it.
* Translate client business challenges into well‑structured technical requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria that engineering teams can act on immediately.
* Work alongside engineers, experience designers, and innovation strategists to scope, prototype, and build rapid proof of values using emerging technologies – including GenAI, APIs, data platforms, etc.
* Hold the pen during technical discovery with clients – running workshops, anticipating and extracting technical requirements, facilitating and participating in architectural discussions, and requirement deep‑dives that surface what they actually need beneath what they say they want.
* Bridge the gap between technical delivery and client stakeholders: communicate architecture decisions, sprint outcomes, and product tradeoffs in clear, engaging, non‑jargon language.
* Evaluate and recommend emerging technology approaches – shaping recommendations that are technically credible and commercially grounded.
* Bring rigour to backlog management: prioritise ruthlessly, unblock teams quickly, and keep delivery aligned to a clear product vision across fast‑moving engagements.
* Mentor and coach junior members of the product community within the AIE, contributing to a growing practice around technical product ownership and agile delivery.
* You’re the barrier to production and the voice of the user – you drive product quality and work with the teams to rapidly iterate, fix, and ship.
You can bring your whole self to work. At Capgemini building an inclusive future is part of everyday life and will be part of your working reality. We have built a representative and welcoming environment, for everyone.
Your skills and experience
* Experience in a Technical Product Owner, Product Manager, or equivalent role – ideally within an innovation consultancy, creative agency, digital venture studio, or technology‑led professional services environment.
* Shipped and created real products that users are using every single day across a specific domain or globally.
* Real technical depth: you can read API documentation, understand data schemas, engage meaningfully in architecture conversations, and know when to push back on technical decisions with confidence.
* Strong experience with agile methodologies – Scrum, Kanban, or SAFe – and track record of leading sprint ceremonies, managing backlogs, writing user stories, and shipping working products at pace.
* It’d be great to have demonstrated experience delivering AI or Gen AI‑enabled products, from ideation through to a working proof of value or production deployment.
* Fluency across data and analytics products: you understand data pipelines, know the difference between what data exists and what data is actually useful, and can scope analytics requirements with precision.
* Strong systems thinking – you see how APIs, platforms, and data flows connect, and can architect the connective tissue of a solution even before the engineers start building.
* Excellent client‑facing skills: you can run a C‑suite workshop, present a technical recommendation with conviction, and build trust with senior stakeholders across any sector.
Your security clearance
To be successfully appointed to this role you will need to undergo Baseline Personnel Security Standard checks.
There are no nationality or residency restrictions, although if you have resided outside of the UK within the last three years, further checks may be required.
There are other criteria and checks required for BPSS, and throughout the recruitment process, you will be asked questions about your security clearance eligibility such as, but not limited to, country of residence and nationality.
We are a Disability Confident Employer
* Capgemini is proud to be a Disability Confident Employer (Level 2) under the UK Government’s Disability Confident scheme.
* As part of our commitment to inclusive recruitment, we will offer an interview to all candidates who declare they have a disability and meet the minimum essential criteria for the role.
* Please opt in during the application process.
