Job Summary
To participate in the provision of an Estates service primarily undertaking electrical day-to-day repairs, planned maintenance, installation and minor improvements. The role includes mechanical duties as training, on-call rota coverage, and maintaining a competent, flexible workforce through progressive cross‑training.
Responsibilities
* Carry out electrical planned preventative maintenance work in accordance with Estates schedules and good working practices.
* Diagnose and repair faults in the hospital’s fixed electrical installations and portable equipment.
* Conduct electrical portable appliance testing in compliance with the Electricity at Work Act 1989 and Estates Department schedules.
* Participate fully in all relevant estates procedures and complete necessary documentation.
* Install and test new electrical installations following current regulations and hospital standards.
* Assist the on‑call rota to cover either site as required.
Person Specification
Education / Qualifications
* Essential: GCSE/'O' Level in Maths and English (or equivalent).
* Essential: City & Guilds of London Institute Craft Certificate in Electrical Installation Engineering or equivalent NVQ Level 3 with AM2, or BTEC in Building Services Engineering.
* Desirable: IPC, PASMA, abrasive wheels, asbestos awareness; relevant HTM CP appointment; 2391 Test & Inspection Certificate.
Experience & Knowledge
* Essential: Completion of a registered apprenticeship or structured training program with a minimum of 3 years’ experience.
* Essential: 3+ years post‑training site experience demonstrating versatility, including plumbing, plant equipment operation, machinery and joinery skills.
* Essential: Ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings and schematics; knowledge of Health & Safety legislation, permits and HTM’s.
* Desirable: Experience working in a hospital, healthcare or public sector environment; use of CAFM systems; computer literate with Microsoft Office and handheld devices.

* Strong communication and problem‑solving skills; ability to provide and receive routine and complex information.
* Physical capability to work safely with trade tools and equipment.
* Self‑motivated, able to plan and prioritise independently and as part of a team.
* Capability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and maintain a high safety standard.
* Desirable: Leadership skills.
