RT14 219811 Forensic Medical Examiner – NHS Scotland
Following a service review, NHS Highland seeks to develop a new 24/7 Forensic Medical Examiner service to support Police Custody Healthcare and Sexual Assault Coordination Services (SARCS). The post holder will be an integral part of the team, working with the nursing workforce delivering custody healthcare services and forensic medical examinations where required.
Salary
Salaried GP: £98,238 to £110,736 / Specialty Doctor: £61,690 to £96,129 / Consultant: £107,144 to £142,369 per annum, pro rata.
Location
Inverness, with potential support and consultation to other remote sites across NHS Highland.
Responsibilities
* Work within a nurse-led service to conduct forensic medical examinations where required, in partnership with Police Scotland.
* Develop and deliver service development in defined areas including children and young people; telehealth and digital technology; mental health and substance use; peer supervision and support.
* Possess a leadership portfolio for the service and contribute to ongoing service improvement.
* Support the Nursing-led custody healthcare model and provide expert input as needed.
* Be available to respond when rostered (no fixed on-call requirement).
* May be required to provide support across NHS Highland’s remote sites.
Qualifications & Requirements
* MBChB with a licence to practice as a GP, Speciality Doctor or Consultant.
* Either MFFLM or working towards this qualification.
* Commitment to implementing Healthcare Improvement Scotland Standards for Healthcare and Forensic Services for adults, children and young people who have experienced rape and sexual assault.
* Strong trauma-informed approach with excellent communication skills. Prior experience in this area is advantageous but not essential; training and ongoing support will be provided.
* Due to the nature of the work and commitment to service choice, female applications are strongly encouraged.
Additional Information
* Eligibility to participate in national SOE (Sexual Offence Examiner) work as part of NHS Highland’s involvement in national tests of change.
* No on-call requirement; availability to respond as rostered via in person, telephone, or Near Me.
* Relocation expenses may be available for full-time positions.
* Work is CNORIS-covered; service led by nurses with collaboration from Police Scotland.
